Driver steps down as Arts & Sciences dean to return to
passion of teaching math

The fall semester has started, and a position is empty in
the division of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Jay Driver the man
who served as dean of arts and sciences for three semesters
recently stepped down from that position to return to the
classroom to teach math and technology.
No tuition increase for second consecutive year

For the second
consecutive semester, South Plain College students are
enjoying another semester that tuition has stayed the same
price.
SPC Regents discuss Fine Arts construction, fall enrollment
dip at September meeting

Construction, fall enrollment, and future campaign efforts
to promote education for the college were among the main
topics of discussion during the September meeting of the
South Plains College Board of Regents.
Construction for the addition to the
Fine Arts Building will begin soon. During the meeting Jim
McCutchin of McCutchin Construction in Levelland presented a
list of bidders for the different jobs needed for this
construction project.
Muleshoe Center becomes newest addition to SPC family

After two and half years of preparation and planning,
Muleshoe is now the home of a new Interactive Television
classroom.
South Plains College and Workforce of
the South Plains opened the SPC Muleshoe Extension Center at
621 Second St. on Aug. 28. This campus was established to
diminish the nursing shortage in this area. The 10 -student
ITV classroom includes pre-requisites for all associate’s
and bachelor’s degrees.
Cheerleaders garner awards at camp

The South Plains College cheerleaders
have had quite an eventful summer.
They attended a private camp in August,
which was hosted by AmeriDance. They earned a superior
performance status, and also earned a spot on the AmeriCheer
All-American Spirit Team.
Blood drive set for Oct. 10 at Reese

South Plains
College will be hosting a blood drive at the Reese Center on
Oct. 10. The United Blood Services donor coach will be in
the parking lot of Building 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Consider
giving the “gift of life” and encourage your friends,
classmates, and family to participate as well.
BSM hosting Back-to-School party Sept. 18

The Baptist Student Ministries is ready to welcome the
students of South Plains College with a Back-to-School party
at the BSM Center.
The party is set for 6 p.m. on Sept.
18 in the BSM Center. The purpose of this party is to get to
know students, give them a good time and tell them about the
work of the BSM. The doors are open not only for the Baptist
students, but for all the students that want who have a good
time and enjoy the return to classes with a splendid party
organized by Arlano Funderburk, the director of the BSM, and
the student leaders that help and work at the BSM. Students
who want to attend are strongly encouraged to be prepared to
play water games. |
