Survivor Gays AS. Straights
by Ray Buffington, editor-in-chief
Sometimes I
reminisce on the days before hopeless single gals marrying
wealthy strangers, diehard, do-anything athletes eating raw,
stomach-turning (and sometimes still alive) items for cash,
and washed-up celebrities drinking massive amounts of
alcohol while making fools of themselves became the norm for
television primetime entertainment.
Tragedies make for depressing television
by Jacob Tucker, associate editor
During the past week, I have discovered
something that I thought was quite startling. The news that
is shown on television and written in many of the

MySpace mayhem 'Friendly' forum lacks real friends
by Robert Box, staff writer
Now, I know that I’m probably not going
to make any friends with this article, but I didn’t send any
requests out anyway.
Let’s face it though, it’s time someone
said it…Myspace is evil. O.K., maybe that’s going a bit
far, but it’s still not as cool as everyone says it is.
It’s addicting, yes, but cool? No.

by Jennifer Conlee, feature editor
When I woke up on Labor Day, the

My mother stood at my bedroom door at 7

Always room for more, so come join us
by Omar Ojeda, staff writer
You know there are many ways to voice
your opinion without raising your voice.
I know this seems like one of those
voting commercials when they tell you that you can make a
difference if you make the effort to go out and vote for a
candidate. But in the end, you really didn’t make a
difference. This isn’t one of those gimmicks.
Recalling day America stopped
by Stephanie Perez, staff writer
It has been
five years since the day that America stopped-the day when
every American, from California to Florida, stopped what
they were doing to watch the news or listen to the radio.
disappointing lack of Hispanic representation
by Amelia Gonzales, news editor
It has been estimated by the Pew
Hispanic Center that the national Latino high school dropout
rate is more than twice the national average.
The Department of Human Resources
states that as the Non-Hispanic pregnancy rate declines
nationwide, it continues to increase among Hispanics.
Hispanics show some of the lowest turnout rates at the
polls, and yet so many of us speak bombastically about the
way our country is managed.
Diversity should be embraced, not feared
by Sawyer Thomas, staff writer
True, an instructor might
be able to stop a students' rude or snide comments and
remarks, or put an end to tension between two or more
students. But what exactly can a teacher do about
judgmental glances and off-book comments? How can a teacher
bring an end to the tension that sort of environment
creates? The tension can be so thick that you could cut it
like Land-O-Lakes butter, but there also is a sense of fear,
fear between students because one attribute or quality that
makes them different.
Army putting lives at risk without Trophy system
by Jon Kay, staff writer
The U.S. Army will be responsible for
more deaths because a soldier’s life is apparently not worth
that much to them.
The Trophy Active Protection System
developed by RAFAEL Armament Development Authority, an
Israeli Defense company, is a new system that is designed
for armored vehicles to intercept and destroy incoming
projectiles, mainly RPG’s, or rocket-propelled grenades. |
