Bonds' greatness underrated

Public perception can often be misleading in the world of sports. 

If I were to ask you who the sports figure was that was surrounded with controversy and ended up breaking one of the most prestigious and notable records in all of sports without the previous record holder or his commissioner present to witness the record fall, who would you say?  Well, it may surprise you to know that I just described Hank Aaron, whose record just fell to Barry Bonds.

With groups growing in popularity among teens, it is hard to decipher what is real and what is being fed as a lie.

So many people seem to be claiming to belong to one group or another without knowing enough about that certain group to even make a conscious decision if that is who they really are.

Cowboy's hopes ride high

After finishing 9-7 last year and suffering from a devastating loss against the Seahawks in the Wild card round of the 2007 playoffs, the cowboys have made some changes.

Notable off-season additions include Offensive guard Leonard Davis, Free Safety Ken Hamlin and reserve Quarterback Brad Johnson, all sure to improve the Cowboys' chances of getting to Arizona, the site of Super Bowl XLII. Also the acquisition of new Head Coach Wade Phillips, who was brought in from the Chargers after Bill Parcells retired, should be a welcomed addition.

Fall brings college football dreams

College football has always had a strong and almost-religious following in America.

Not only is it football, but many love the sport due to the fact that the players are not being paid, thus pushing them to perform harder knowing that their chances of moving on to the National Football League are better if they play harder. Others feel a strong tie to a certain team because of their allegiance to the college, such as alumni or friends and family. Regardless of the reason, America loves its college football.

Raiders rely on Harrell's arm

Texas Tech off to Strong Start with 49-9 win over SMU.

Although a new set of starting receivers and most new offensive line, Texas Tech managed to thump SMU 49-9.

 On Sept. 4, Tech had 553 yards total offense. 473 of which came through the air and 80 on the ground. Tech’s Graham Harrell went 44-59 for 419 yards for the game.

The first overall pick in the NFL draft, a three-time Pro Bowl player at the hardest position in the sport, the only quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season, a multi-millionaire and now a convicted felon. 

There have been few that have fallen so far and so fast as Michael Vick has in the past few months.  The only other individual who comes to my mind is the likes of another Mike, Mike Tyson.

Forgiveness, change a reality for disgraced athletes

Being born into a family of 17 children and having a father who died when he was just a little boy, Michael Irvin knew that nothing was going to be given to him. A man of many troubles, amazing talent and what would become even greater faith, Michael Irvin can be an inspiration and a molding tool for many of today's athletes. Both who are pro and aspire to do so.

Mixed martial arts fights for place in American sports

America’s pastime since the early 1920s has undisputedly been baseball, but a huge part of the public has had an undeniable thirst for blood.

In the early part of the 20th century, boxing gained huge popularity that continued up to the end of the century. However, in recent years, a new blood sport has been raised to the top of the popularity charts. MMA, or mixed martial arts, is an all-out brawl of fighting that has come to dominate cable television schedules.

Baseball takes westerners on journey of lifetime

The Lubbock Western Little League All-Star 11- and-12 year old team began a once - in- -a - lifetime journey to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn with a 6-0 victory against Roswell, N.M in Waco. 

Their ultimate goal, was to be crowned Little League World Champions.
