Law enforcement program has three-year passing streak

by Jason Hartline, staff writer

For the past two years, all of the enrolled law enforcement students scored 100 percent on the TCLEOSE exam, which is the licensing exam students are required to take at the end of the academy.

In the summer of 2007, 18 out of 18 students achieved perfection. In September 2007 through August 2008, 11 out of 11 also scored 100 percent. Finally, in the summer of 2008, 10 out of 10 achieved the same success, for a total of 39 students.

The standard that is set by the state says a student must score at least 80 percent of the exam correct the first time. SPC has higher standards than that. These standards are reflected and shown by the law enforcement staff.

“We have kept up this level of excellence because of the hard work the staff puts into the students,” said Randy Robertson, chairperson of the Law Enforcement Department. “If it wasn’t for the students, none of us would be here. All the credit goes to their hard work.”

Even though all law enforcement students get three chances to pass the TCLEOSE exam, a SPC student only needs one chance to achieve perfection.
