Stunning trip brings summer to close

by Caroline Basile, editor-in-chief

It seemed summer went way too fast for everyone,. But with it’s close, I definitely felt ready to go back to college and I got the itch to start writing. I just didn’t know my first assignment would be as big as it was.

Pop culture affects views on teen pregnancy

by Beka Rutledge, entertainment editor

Media and the superstars it trails have continuously had a major impact on society, and it is usually not the best of influences.

Lately, in the world of the rich and famous, everywhere you turn you see glamorous mother after glamorous mother. Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Alba are among the recent celebrity moms.

Bush ineffective as president, inadequacy in White House

by Daniel Clayton, opinion editor

President George W. Bush is inadequate.

He failed our economy, and he failed us with gas prices skirting $4 a gallon. My pocketbook is hurting, especially since they made the new iPhone bigger to accommodate the 3G, which doesn’t work.

Border Patrol ride-along eye-opening experience

by Britni Palomino, photo editor

As I enjoyed my summer working at my dream job at a daily newspaper in my hometown, the last two people I thought I would spend my last weekend of summer with was Caroline Basile, the editor-in-chief of the Plainsman Press, and Charlie Ehrenfeld, the advisor for the Plainsman Press in a town I had never heard of.

by Lisa Hernandez, staff writer

Getting up early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons is one of my fondest memories as a child. I remember sitting on the floor next to my brother while we watched the Power Rangers battle monsters, or we watched to see what kind of scrapes Winnie the Pooh could get into. I also remember that there were only two shows in the Saturday morning line-up that were  not cartoons, and that was “Power Rangers” and the “Masked Rider.”

Practice caution with procrastination

by Andy Garvin, news editor

Never do today what you can put off for tomorrow. Better yet, never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid altogether! ~ Anonymous

This quote hits home for a number of students. Just ask their teachers and roommates. My roommate is a prime example. He has put off obtaining his student ID for two weeks.

Perks make smalltown life enjoyable

by Lyndsey Wolf, staff writer

It is a privilege to grow up in a small town.

I have been able to experience small town life for 18 years. I grew up in a small town with 900 people. In the town, everyone knows everyone.

I graduated with 25 people in my class. Many people who have graduated from Wink choose to stay. We have lots of oil field jobs available around Wink, and it is a wonderful environment in which to raise a family.
