SPC track star finalist at Olympic games

Renny Quow came to SPC with a distinguished track record.
This summer, at the 2008 Olympic games
in Beijing, he was given the opportunity to show the world
his track skills.
Quow, representing his home country of
Trinidad and Tobago, finished seventh in the gold-medal
round of the 400-meter relay.
Heth has blueprint for success as new intramural director

Ryan Heth has come a long way from his hometown in Nebraska
to become the new recreational instructor for South Plains
College.
Heth grew up in Omaha, Neb., which has
a population of around 430,000, so +
he is familiar with the city life. But
he liked it in Texas. He says that he “loves the atmosphere,
and the people around here were very welcoming and
friendly.” He has one sister who still lives in Nebraska,
along with most of his family. After living in Omaha, he
decided to attend Midland High School, located in Midland,
Texas, where he graduated in 1999.
Texan Cheerleaders bring home honors

The South Plains College basketball
community has had a lot to cheer about recently, and the
always-spirited Texan Cheerleaders have been there every
step of the way.
This summer, the squad traveled to
Cincinnati, Ohio to take part in a four-day cheer camp
hosted by AmeriDance.
Big 12 championship up for grabs

The
Big 12 Conference is filled with several major players this
year.
To say
that any one team will win the conference outright is
insanity.
With
teams such as the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns,
Missouri Tigers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and the Kansas
Jayhawks, the Big 12 championship is up for grabs.
Vierstra competes in National Finals Rodeo

South Plains College sophomore Cassie Vierstra spends most
of her time when not attending class walking her horses and
keeping them in shape at the SPC Rodeo Arena.
Her commitment is paying off, as she
competed in the CNFR (College National Finals Rodeo) in
June.
Super Bowl or bust for talented Cowboys

It is about that time again Cowboy fans, the time of the
year when Sundays are like a holiday and you don’t mind if
school or work is the day after as long as pro football is
back.
After suffering a second-round loss to
the New York Giants, who eventually beat out the
heavily-favored Patriots in the Super Bowl, the Dallas
Cowboys think they have recovered from the incident.
Cross Country teams look to build upon experience

For many becoming a dedicated runner is considered torture;
however, for others such as the South Plains College cross
country team, being a dedicated runners is more of a hobby.
Coach Beene is very excited about this year. Beene feels the
guy’s team is very deep and has a strong team with many
athletes returning to run.
'Redeem Team' restores dominance at Olympics

Just when it seemed as if the United States Olympic men’s
basketball dominance was in jeopardy, the 2008 squad proved
the world wrong.
Dubbed the ‘Redeem Team’, this team came out to show the
world that the USA’s dismal, bronze-medal showing in the
2004 Athens Olympic Games was merely a hiccup.
