Still
Americia's Team After all These Years
Tim Deleon, staff writer
Sure we’d like to think that the Dallas Cowboys haven’t fallen out of the
sky as “Americas Team” but we have to face reality folks, the ‘boys are in a
slump. Longer than most had expected of course considering they were the
first of now two teams to win the Super Bowls three out of four years and
had produced some of the biggest names in NFL history. Troy Aikman, Emmit
Smith, and Michael Irvin or the “Triplets” known world wide by Cowboy fans,
defined the ‘Boys in the nineties. Since there success of almost 10 years
ago, the Dallas Cowboys have yet to see any real talent that can carry them
to another Super Bowl title...until now!!
Jason Witten, Roy Williams, Drew Bledsoe, Keyshawn Johnson, Julius Jones and
DeMarcus Ware are just some of the names that electrify the ‘Boys’ roster to
nominate them as a serious playoff contender.
As
an offensive success as a rookie and joining the Pro-Bowl in his sophomore
season, Jason Witten has become one of those elite Tight-Ends in the NFL.
His good hands and big body will prove be an easy target for Quarterback
Drew Bledsoe . Witten, becoming one of the Cowboys’ go-to guy, was just one
yard shy of becoming the first tight end in Dallas Cowboy history to lead
the team in receiving yards with 980. His 261, 6-4 stature will help define
the Cowboys as a serious Playoff contender this year
Coming out of Troy St. University as one of the fastest (4.51 in the 40) and
one of the strongest (430- pound press) football players to ever come out.
Rookie sensation DeMarcus Ware is already turning heads not only in the
Cowboys’ organization , but at the rest of the league also. Speed is Ware’s
allie and seems to be showing no real weakness to his game thus far in the
season. His speed and agility will be a prime ingredient to tuning up the
‘Boys’ defence.
Second Year man out of Notre Dame University, Julius Jones, is as hopeful
running back as everyone has wished for. Not since he legend and All-Time
Leading Rusher Emmit Smith, have the ‘boys retained a solid running game.
Traded their first round pick in the 2004 NFL draft to Buffalo, gave the
‘Boys the opportunity to select Jones. No one really knew who he was or what
he could offer this Cowboy team who has been desperately longing for a
championship since 1996, but still Dallas greeted him with open arms. Due to
injury, Jones had to sit the sidelines in his debut season with the ‘Boys.
Playing only one game in the first nine, Cowboy fans were skeptical of this
high hope running back for the ‘Boys. After his injury healed and a Monday
Night football game to play, Jones’ moment had finally arrived to show the
whole country, especially Dallas what he was made of. The game would end up
as a classic, and a “W” in the win collum. That game against the Seahawks
pumped hope into the heats in Dallas fans everywhere.
All
these guys I’ve mentioned are just some of the players who make a
contribution to the team. They are all rising stars, and will hopefully one
day, give another title to the Dallas Cowboys organization and to the fans.
Dallas’ schedule this year is tough but I think the ‘Boys are up to the
challenge. Its Bill Parecell’s third year in his four year contract, lets
just hipe he can turn it into a Dallas championship.
