Moonlight Madness

by Michael Martinez, staff writer

The South Plains College Athletic Department will hold Moonlight Madness on Oct. 1. at the Texan Dome.

This will be a great opportunity for students to support the Texans and Lady Texans, while having a fun time doing it.

The event is open to all SPC students and is free of charge. Events will kick off at 7 p.m. with live music and a coed 3-on-3 basketball tournament. A free throw contest, 3-point shooting contest and a slam-dunk contest also will be held during the evening. Following the competitions, the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be introduced, beginning at 9 p.m. Moonlight Madness concludes with the free food provided by Burger King, Mama Mia’s Pizza Kitchen, Pizza Hut, and Taco Villa at 10 p.m. The live music, provided by the Creative Arts Department, also will be performed throughout the evening

Anybody who is an SPC student can enter any of the contests. There is no entry fee, and you can sign up for the contests on the spot.

The event is in celebration of the first day of official practice.

“It’s just a way to kick off the season, and we try to get the student body involved,” said SPC Athletic Director Joe Tubb. “We are really excited about the season, and we hope everyone turns out to show their support.”

Unlike in previous years, Moonlight Madness is being held at the Texan Dome instead of at the PE Complex, where it had been held at for the past few years.
