There’s a new club starting at South Plains College which promises to be a
lot of fun for those interested in telecommunications, theater, or even just
watching good movies.
The Film Club is different from other clubs
because there are no elected officers, says Sadie Ates, the SPC student
whose ideas brought the club into fruition.
“It’s really just like a bunch of friends getting
together to watch and discuss movies,” Ates says.
There are currently only five student members in
the club headed up by Communications Department chairman John Sparks. Each
student’s interests vary, ranging from live-action film to animation, as
well as theater and radio enthusiasts. But Ates says that all are welcome to
join, as long as you enjoy watching movies and discussing your views.
The group plans to meet at least every other
Friday at a fun and meeting place in Lubbock. Their next meeting will be
held on Oct 22nd at the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center, at 34th and
Q streets. The group will watch the recently-released-on-video “Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and then discuss the film together.
Not just happy with watching other people’s
creations though, the film club hopes to someday produce a film as a group.
They are also planning a trip to Austin for a film festival, where they hope
to meet director Robert Rodriguez and perhaps tour some studios.
For more information about the club, contact
Sparks or attend the Oct 22nd meeting.
