The ballots are in for vice president of the
Student Government Association at South Plains College and the position goes
to ... freshman Cooper Smart.
Smart, a business finance major from Andrews,
was elected to hold the office from among the three candidates during voting
Sept. 15-16.
Smart is the baby of a family of four. He has
three siblings, two older sisters and one older brother.
He is active in intramural sports and Student
Government at SPC. In his free time, Smart can be found playing his guitar
and writing music. He describes himself as “very fun to be around and
outgoing, for sure.”
To be able to run for vice president, Smart
explained that he had to go around and get 100 signatures from the student
body before he was qualified to begin a campaign.
The race was held from Sept. 7-16.
In order to win the election, a candidate had
to receive at least 51 percent of the votes cast by the student body. The
candidates received votes from the student body by going out on campus and
requesting that the students vote in the Student Activities Office for them
as vice president of the student government.
Smart said he plans to give
the students and the government everything he can offer.
“ The best that I can when
something comes up, giving the best input I have on it and let it go from
there,” Smart said.
