Halloween Carnival Plans Taking Shape

The Office of Student Activities is hosting a Halloween Carnival and costume ball the evening of Oct. 31.

 The carnival will begin at 6 and continue until 9, with a costume ball lasting from 9 until midnight.

According to Stan Weatherred, director of student activities, “Every four years the Halloween Carnival falls on Halloween day.”

There will be a variety of activities featured at the Carnival, including a haunted house, jail, and cakewalk.  Campus organizations, dorms, and clubs are expected to participate in the event.

For clubs and other campus organization planning on participating in the Carnival, the deadline to reserve a booth is Oct. 25 at 4p.m. The groups that participated last year will have priority on this year’s booths.

There will be prizes awarded for certain Carnival events to different groups. The best club, organization or residence hall booth, will receive a prize of $50. There will also be a prize of $25 awarded at the costume ball for best costume.

“The community really likes to interact with the students,” Weatherred said. “It is a safe environment and fun for kids.”

Another event taking place this month is a Beauty and the Beast contest. The contest helps raise money for the Levelland Community Outreach. Last year, the event raised $2,303, though, according to Weatherred, the goal this year is to exceed that amount.

Each organization can choose one guy and one girl to represent them in the contest. The following people are participating:

Brittnye Hurst and Cris Howel, Campus Ambassadors;

D’Ann Ybarra and Chad Mote, American Chemial Society;

Giovanni Rosendo and Ray Buffington, Press Club;

Brandie Vajek and Marc Balderas, STAR Center;

Aston Hinch and Patrick Scully, Symphonic Band;

Maria Howard and Markus Johnson, Black Student Organization;

Krystal Charles and Kenneth Gossett, Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement;

Michelle Pedroza and Juan Villanueva, Hispanic Student Organization;

Kyra Christian and Evan Owen, Ski Club;

Faith Lowery and Brett Aiken, Delta Psi Omega; and

Wendy and Dela Rosa and Josh Watson, Student Government Association.

The club able to raise the most money will get $50, and the Beauty and the Beast will receive $20 each.

Weatherred said, he expects this year’s Halloween Carnival and Beauty and the Beast contest to be even more successful and fun.
