Texas Newest Majority-Minority State

by Brandye Huggs, staff writer

Texas is in for a change. It’s a change that has been in the making since Texas first established itself as an independent nation, and later became a state in the United States of America. The population demographics of Texas are changing.

According to a report by the United States Census Bureau, issued August 11, Texas is now a state where non-whites are the majority population. This makes Texas a “majority-minority” state.

Webster’s Dictionary defines a minority as any people of an ethnic, racial, religious, or other group having a distinctive presence within a society. According to this definition, Whites are now a minority in Texas.
