New ID
Numbers for SPC Students

Students will no longer be
using their Social Security numbers as a lead form of identification of the
student.
Along
with numerous colleges and Universities throughout the States, in compliance
with government mandate, South Plains College will be changing the way
students log in to Campus Connect and identify themselves for Admissions,
Financial Aid, and Business Offices.
Basically, think of every time in your college career that some one has
asked you your Social Security number in order to access your records. As
of Oct. 17, students will now use a Student Identification number that will
replace the use of Social.
For
safety reasons, the government ordered that students shall not give their
Social Security number out to anyone who asks on campus, but instead will
use a randomly selected student ID number verified by a birth date and/or
e-mail address.
“This
is a permanent change for the protection of all students,” says Sandy
Gilliam, computer support specialist at SPC.
It is
very important for all students to register an e-mail address with the
office of Admissions and Records. On the date of the change, students with
an existing registered e-mail address will be able to log in to Campus
Connect as normal and click to a link that will send their new Student ID
number to them via e-mail.
Current students who need to update or register a new e-mail address and get
their ID number should do so in the Admissions Office.
New
students will be given a card with their identification number included in
their registration packet at the beginning of school. The e-mail address
will now be your user name (instead of SSN), but your password will still be
the same four-digit password as before.
The
new student ID numbers at SPC are randomly selected and are only used at
this college. This number will identify the student at SPC forever, whether
or not he or she occasionally misses a semester.
