SPC actors add 'Spirit' to first play production
by Brittany Bradford, co-entertainment editor

More than 60 years ago, Noel Coward put on paper a hilarious example of irony, revenge and tragic comedy. The South Plains College theatre program took this popular play and painted the stage with amazing skill and impressive talent that exceeds many college production standards.

“Blithe Spirit” is a story of a confused man who has remarried shortly after the death of his first wife and engages in a séance. Unexpectedly, the ghost of his first wife returns and stays in his house and continues to ruin his current marriage.

Rogers' return was 'Just a Matter of Time'

by Jacob Tucker, associate editor

Even though Randy Rogers spent a little time out of the spotlight after signing his first major record deal with Mercury Records, it was “Just a Matter of Time” before he nudged his way back into the limelight.

On Sept. 12, the Randy Rogers Band released “Just a Matter of Time,” their fourth album in their career, but their first with a major record label.

by Taylor Charters, staff writer

In 2002, Scott Faris began a program with the intention of giving students in the commercial music program real life experience. Today, “AlternaTV” has become exactly that.

“AlternaTV” is a 30-minute rock music program that features in the commercial music program at South Plains College.

Local rockers 'Come back to Texas'

by Brittany Bradford, co-entertainment editor

This year, fall was ushered in with the annual Panhandle-South Plains Fair along with huge rides, cotton candy, and return home of a well-known local band from a Texas heard on radio stations all over the nation.

Their current success has launched a huge fan base including the rapid growth of South Plains fans welcoming them back, compared to quite smaller crowds they left years ago.

George gets 'Strait' to the point

by Hope Perez, staff writer

George Strait has once again proven why he is considered to be one of the greatest “American Country Singers.”

Aptly titled “It Just Comes Natural,” his newly-released CD has all of his newest accomplishments in country song, theme, and especially that country “twang” that is considered his trade mark sound.  Strait has always been known to stay close to his traditional country sound that he first brought out in the early 1980s, when he came upon the Country and Western scene.

'Black Dahlia' bloody good

by Hilary McNamara, co-entertainment editor

In hopes of choosing a good movie, I had remembered the chilling preview for “Black Dahlia” and how intriguing the film seemed to be. I knew then that was going to be the pick of the night.

Inspired by the most notorious unsolved murder in California history, this movie is an adaptation of James Ellroy’s novel about two 1940s L.A. cops who head up the hunt for the killer of starlet Elizabeth Short.  Officer Dwight "Bucky" Bleichert, played by Josh Hartnett, Sgt. Leland "Lee" Blanchard, played by Aaron Eckhart, are well-known boxers turned cops. They were stars in the ring, and soon they become stars on the police force.  To complicate things, a tight triangle develops when Eckhart’s girlfriend Kay Lake, played by Scarlett Johansson, acts almost as a girlfriend and mother to both of the men.

Nip/Tuck gets a facelift

by Sawyer Thomas, staff writer

It would appear that the sultry and seductive night-time television drama “Nip/Tuck” has gone under the knife and had a little plastic surgery of it’s own.  It’s back with a vengeance, ready to re-captivate its audiences after a rocky and, at times confusing, third season.  To recap the last season of “Nip/Tuck” would be like trying to untangle barbed wire, next to impossible.  But, I’ll do my best.

'Last Kiss' makes lasting impression

by Stephanie Perez, staff writer

The things that terrify people the most in relationships were all covered in “The Last Kiss.”

It reminds us that we are all vulnerable, and that when we think that we have everything, we really don’t. The movie is about Michael (Zach Braff), a 29-year-old architect who finds out that his girlfriend of three years, Jenna, (Jacinda Barrett), is pregnant. Michael is happy about the news, but he is terrified because he feels like everything in his life is at a standstill. That there is absolutely nothing that excites him anymore.
