Despite injuries, sports still worth it

The other night I was driving home from
refereeing a high school football game and my right knee
started to hurt.
It made me think back to my playing
days in high school and everything that I went through. I
thought to myself, was it worth it?
Some sports stories not so newsworthy

Professional athletes tend to be
idolized and looked up to more in today’s society than in
the past. I understand that professional athletes are
excellent competitors in their selected field of play, but
they are just people too.
We, as a society tend to be so
astonished when an athlete gets into even the most remote
trouble with the law or has family issues.
Rodeo teams saddle up for success

South Plains
College’s men’s and women’s rodeo teams have their fall
season off to a galloping start.
At their first
rodeo of the season at the Eastern New Mexico University
Rodeo in Portales, N.M. Chance Butterfield, a sophomore from
Ponoka, Alberta, placed first in steer wrestling. Stewart
Kinley of Gladstone, Manitoba, placed second place in bull
riding. The men’s team finished in sixth place with a total
of 185 points. Lacee Edwards helped the SPC woman’s rodeo
team by placing seventh overall in breakaway roping.
Cross Country squads compete at OSU

The South
Plains College men’s and women’s cross country teams
recently competed at the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State
University on Sept. 30.
The Texans finished eighth in the University Division with
263 points. The University of Arkansas finished first with
40 points. Abilene Christian placed second, and Oklahoma
State was third.
Top sports movies mix old, new

Through the years, there have been a
lot of great movies that involve sports and true stories
about great athletes.
But are they better than classics such
as “Hoosiers” and “Rudy”? Yes, the new era of sports movies
can be compared to these classics, but I am here to list the
five best sports movies of all-time.
