South Plains College is hosting
the Tech Prep Career Expo on Oct. 17.
The purpose of the event is to help high school students
learn about the different careers available for them. The
event will start from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lubbock
Memorial Civic Center Exhibit Hall.
Pam Moore, assistant director of Tech Prep, said that they
are expecting 3,000 high school students from the Hockley
County and the Lubbock school districts.
“Tech Prep Expo will expose high school juniors and seniors
to what their education opportunities are,” said Moore.
A total of 500 businesses and college representatives will
be helping and counseling students to know more about their
career opportunities.
“Colleges like Texas Tech University, Lubbock Christian
University and Wayland Baptist University are going to be
there,” said Moore.
Moore also said that businesses such as Wells Fargo, United
Supermarkets and Wal-Mart will be participating in the
event. Representatives of the Lubbock Police Department, the
Lubbock Fire Department and the American Red Cross also will
be available to give information about what they do and the
job opportunities that they provide.
Jason Ryan Dorsey, author of books such as “My Reality Check
Bounced” and “Graduate to Your Perfect Job,” will be the
motivational speaker at the Tech Prep Expo.
“Jason Dorsey will be speaking to students of not making
excuse for themselves,” said Moore, who is one of the
organizers for this event.
She added that Dorsey will speak about
how students should have a better attitude toward what they
want to do with their careers.
Moore said that everyone is invited to
attend the event. It also will feature a computer center
bank, a reality check and a band from SPC, which will be
performing during the morning.
