A multi-million dollar grant from the U.S.
Department of Education is expected to aid South Plains College in helping
at-risk students and improve retention efforts.
United States Senator John Cornyn and Congressman Randy Neugebauer recently
notified SPC that it has been awarded a five-year, $2.48 million dollar
federal grant. The single largest competitive grant ever received by the
college.
Cindy Stenholm
visits SPC for husband's campaign

In the days leading up to Election Day,
Congressman Charlie Stenholm and his wife, Cindy, have been busy making
last-minute appearances in the campaign for the 19th Congressional District
19 Congressional.
Cindy Stenholm toured the Levelland campus of South Plains College, on Oct.
18, in an effort to gain support for her husband’s campaign. Dane Dewbre,
dean of College Relations escorted Stenholm and told her about the college,
while she visited with students and staff and encouraged everyone to “vote
for Stenholm.”

Get ready to enjoy some wonderful music, as the
South Plains College’s Jazz Band concert is just around the corner. The Fine
Arts Department presents the SPC Jazz Band in their first performance for
the fall semester. The band is under the instructor of Dr. Bruce Keeling,
professor of music.
The performance will take place in the SPC Theatre on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the event, and admission
is free.

f you went and thought “Arsenic and Old Lace”
was funny, then you have to come enjoy the second South Plains College
theatre production of “Dearly Departed” by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones.
The curtain will go up opening night on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Other
performances are set for 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, with a matinee
set for 2 p.m. on Nov. 21.
Application
deadline falls this week for December graduation

Those students planning to graduate in December
need to apply for an application in the Admissions and Records Office.
The application needs to be completed and turned in by Nov. 4, in the
Admissions and Records Office, located in the Students Services Building.
There is no application fee.
CSW rep plans to
visit SPC

The College of Southwest will have a
representative coming to visit South Plains College this week.
The representative will be available on Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for
students to find out information about transfering opportunities. CSW’s
table will be located in the mall area of the Student Services Building, in
front of the Counseling Center.
College of the Southwest is in Hobbs, N.M.
Angelo State to
visit SPC

Angelo State University will have
representatives coming to visit the Levelland campus to meet with
prospective students on Nov. 10.
Transfer admission recruiters will be set up in the front of Counseling
Center offices located in the mall area of the Student Services Building
from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students who plan to transfer to Angelo State in
the spring or for the fall 2005 semester, or those who would like to know
more about educational opportunities at ASU, are invited to attend.
