Smith continues roping domination

Plains College’s Stefanie Smith continued her dominance in the break away
roping competition by taking her third straight title in a recent college
rodeo held in Vernon.
Smith, a sophomore from Lovington N.M., placed first in the event with a
time of 5.7 seconds. She also finished 11th in the nation last season at the
National College Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
South Plains College rodeo coach Josh Crow said, “ Stefanie did great a job
to win the breakaway at Vernon for the third season in a row. She should
really have a great season for us.”
Also competing for South Plains College were Jenna Erikson, who made the
finals in the goat tying and finished tied for fifth with a time of 17.7
seconds.
For the men, Jake Mitchelle and Kyle Anderson both made it to the calf
roping finals. Mitchelle finished with a total time of 24.4 seconds.
The next competition will be the Texas Tech rodeo that will be held Nov.
18-20 in the last event of the fall season.
