South Plains College’s Stefanie Smith continued her dominance in the break away roping competition by taking her third straight title in a recent college rodeo held in Vernon.

Smith, a sophomore from Lovington N.M., placed first in the event with a time of 5.7 seconds. She also finished 11th in the nation last season at the National College Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.

South Plains College rodeo coach Josh Crow said, “ Stefanie did great a job to win the breakaway at Vernon for the third season in a row. She should really have a great season for us.”

Also competing for South Plains College were Jenna Erikson, who made the finals in the goat tying and finished tied for fifth with a time of 17.7 seconds.

For the men, Jake Mitchelle and Kyle Anderson both made it to the calf roping finals. Mitchelle finished with a total time of 24.4 seconds.

The next competition will be the Texas Tech rodeo that will be held Nov. 18-20 in the last event of the fall season.
