Going Forward without Delay
Margot Gonzales, staff
writer
Before you skip this article, because it might just sound like the rest,
I’ll ease into the subject. How often is it that a woman has the
opportunity to be third in line for the presidency?
Today is probably the best answer I’ve got. With Tom DeLay, former Majority
House Leader, bringing difficulty for the Republican Party, Democrats could
take the house.
Nancy Pelosi, a name you should become most familiar with, is the Minority
House Leader. This means that if the Democrats do take the house, she will
be the new Speaker of the House. This is probably what excites me the
most. It is unbelievable, that finally our nation has the opportunity to
see the opposite gender hold that much power.
The
nation is ready to see a change, and that would be a female holding a high
leadership role.
DeLay did me a huge favor, and made some leeway for my happiness in the
future. If, in two years, Pelosi is Speaker of the House, I’m willing to
bet there will be an increase in female government leaders.
Of
course, there is always a bad chocolate in the box, and that is DeLay
residing from the one and only
Lone
Star
State.
With DeLay out of the ballgame, Texas is guaranteed less funding. Looking
at our schools, the last thing Texas needs right now is less funding.
Now, by no means does this indictment give the Democrats the house. I just
have higher hopes for the party that I believe is the right party. I’ve
given Republicans a five-year chance, and all is failed.
The
next month should be filled with excitement, knowing that DeLay had to step
aside due to House Republican rules. The House of Representatives would
never ignore such a high crime.
The
indictment itself was just a slap on the wrist, and taking away his title
would be the one punishment for which I give praise.
My
advice for readers would be to watch the news and follow the DeLay case,
because it is much more exciting than most think.
