All Religions Are Fabulous

by Ray Buffington, editor-in-chief

There are hundreds of religions that are currently being practiced in the world, each with the belief that it is the one that has it right.

Each religion believes that only its followers of the particular ideas about why and how we are on this world, and also how we should live our lives,  will be able to achieve whatever “promised land” there is after death.

Land of the Sleaze, Home of the Depraved

by Christopher Byram, opinion editor

In this dreary West Texas town, nothing seems to change.

The geography of the city alters and the population shifts, but no matter what physical change occurs, Lubbock still remains a radioactive pit of decay and sickness.

I Love Brown People

by Giovanni Rosendo, associate editor

As I sat in the Metro Tower on the sixth floor all by my lonesome at work, recently, I picked up a “Hispanic” magazine and began reading about the ordeal on the border.

I already knew that there obviously have been troubles with illegal aliens swimming, actually just walking, their way across the river to become a part of our country.  I never really understood why so many people have a problem with this.

Going Forward without Delay

by Margot Gonzales, staff writer

Before you skip this article, because it might just sound like the rest, I’ll ease into the subject.  How often is it that a woman has the opportunity to be third in line for the presidency?

Today is probably the best answer I’ve got.  With Tom DeLay, former Majority House Leader, bringing difficulty for the Republican Party, Democrats could take the house.

Video Pirating... Sticking it to the Man

by Jacob Tucker, feature editor

Albert Valente took a movie that should have been far, far away and watched it a little too soon.

During the post-production of “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith,” a copy was “borrowed” from the studio and passed among eight men.  One these men then put the movie on the Internet a day before the national release, and more than 10,000 copies are thought to have been downloaded.

Not Satan's Playground

by Cody Flores, staff writer

The church must stop trying to convince us that Halloween is bad.

There is nothing wrong with Halloween. But there are some people out there who still think that it is that screwed up holiday that glorifies the devil.

When I was a kid, Halloween was all about candy. “Got to get more candy. Who has the best candy? Man, I hate this house; this old lady always gives us a dime.” I never once thought that, according to some, I was secretly honoring Satan.

Happiness is Just a Smile Away

by Shea Chancey, staff writer

The definition of true happiness is being completely happy in life with yourself, spiritually and mentally. Now, the question is, how do you find it and are you ever truly happy?

I recently have found myself observing the way people walk, talk, and behave when they are around one another, not expecting anyone to be paying attention to them. Some smile and laugh as they walk with a group or just one person, while others walk along with their head down and heading straight to their destination.

Abortion: A Woman's Right to Choose

by Jacob Tucker, feature editor

So the floor has been open and abortion is the topic of choice. It is very difficult to discuss abortion because everyone has very strong opinions when it comes to the termination of a pregnancy. Even on the Plainsman Press staff there are differing views on abortion.

My discussion on this topic is in response to a fellow writer who expressed her more conservative views on abortion. Being an almost extreme liberal, I feel as though I am a minority in Texas’ traditionalistic political culture. I believe in Pro-Choice. A woman should have the right to make decisions about her body and thus, her pregnancy.

Opinions that Help & Opinions that Hurt

by Patricia Almanza, staff writer

I sat in front of my computer the night before this article was supposed to be turned in, and I racked my brain for something to write.

I sat there staring at the screen for 10 minutes (well, maybe it was just five minutes) waiting for some kind of thought to pop into my head. It seemed like I would never think of something to write. I sat there thinking, “What do I have an opinion about?”

What I Hate About Concerts

by Desiree Mendez, staff writer

I’m not one who is easily annoyed, and I’m not one to complain.

But there are a few things that make me very mad. So for the next few minutes or so, I’m going to explain to you why and how these things make me mad.

Learning from My Experiences

by Brooke Heald, staff writer

Parties, clubs, drinking, and drugs; these things seem to be a part of the lives of many college students.

But why is this normal behavior for college kids in Lubbock? Well, because some think that there just isn’t anything else to do.
