The cosmetology program at South Plains College has many things to offer to students.

It offers a good education in a field that is widely depended on, along with, facials or manicures, if you must. The department has an open salon where students and local residents both can go and have their hair permed or a manicure done.

Mayhem Motel checks in with unexpected chills

Your hands are sweaty and shaking.  Your heart is pounding.  You are about to enter the Mayhem Motel.

The Mayhem Motel is not your ordinary hotel.  Living inside its walls is a madman.  The psycho has killed his victims by means of torture, acid, and bottomless pits.  As you walk down dark hallways, never knowing what terror awaits you at the next turn, you view the bodies of his victims.

Professor shares love of teaching, family at SPC

Dr. Peggy Skinner began to delve into the minds of her young students at South Plains College nearly 30 years ago.

Dr. Skinner began teaching at SPC in 1978. She now teaches psychology, primarily human growth and development, child psychology, and human sexuality. In the past, Dr. Skinner has taught general psychology, though she specializes in human growth and development. She received her doctorate from Texas Tech University and recommends that students attend Texas Tech as well.

"Black Hawk Down" author insires future writers

Mark Bowden has intrigued the world by writing tantalizing war epics with a touch of personality.

Bowden brought this intrigue to the students of Texas Tech University and others who heard him speak on Oct. 11 in Lubbock. He came to TTU to help the future generation of writers, offer a little insight on good writing, and discuss his most famous book, “Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War”.

Brit brings love of music to SPC

Many people think of music when they think of Lubbock and the rest of the South Plains.  After all, many famous musicians have come from this area, including Buddy Holly, whose name has become synonymous with Lubbock since his death.
