Primitive punishment death penalty
chances electrocuting innocents by Ray Buffington, editor-in-chief As the
human race attempts to advance itself into a state higher than
the unintelligible cavemen that we came from, it refuses to
let go of a few of the barbaric customs that make humans less
than human.
America needs humility pros, cons of our
conflicted country by Jonathan Seaborn, opinion editor
America is my home, and I am proud of that. I am an American.
But I am far from proud of many of the
things our homeland has done and is doing. I have heard people
say “America is the best country in the world,” and I think to
myself how are people judging this? Where are the facts? So I
went out on a mission to see if America could hold up to its
self-proclaimed godliness.
Saving cents, eating out adds up by Robert Box, staff writer
One day I went to Wal-Mart and intended to buy a CD, which I
had been wanting for some time. But when I looked at the
price of the CD, I thought to myself, “I could buy 28 lunches
with this.” That’s when I realized that the 50-cent lunch
offered at the Baptist Student Ministries each Monday and
Thursday has made me a cheapskate.
Baby mama drama resolved through peace
by Amelis Gonzales, co-news editor
Nearly seven years ago, I entered into a
relationship with a man whose daughter was five years old at
the time.
I was only 19 then, and I never planned
on being a parent or role model for anyone. I admit that the
first time I met his daughter I was terrified. I was terrified
by what she would think of me, as well as by what her reaction
toward me would be. Most importantly, I was terrified of what
I have heard so many people label as “baby mama drama.”
You're not in high school, so time to
learn, grow up
by Jonathan Kay, staff writer
All I hear is” Blah Blah Blah, I’m a kid
straight out of my momma’s house and I need to grow up.”
Going to South Plains College has opened
my eyes to something. It feels like I am back in high school.
South Plains College is not the only community college that I
have attended, and it might be that I am an older student. But
my opinion of most of the students in my classes is that they
still think that they are in high school.
Job hunting not so hard
by Sawyer Thomas, staff writer
After getting unexpectedly, or rather
expectedly, since I didn’t go to work on one Monday,
terminated from my job, I realized just how easy it was to
find a job in Lubbock.
Life in border town best of both worlds
by Isa Torres, staff writer
My life has been very special and
different.
Living in a border town is one of the
weirdest things that you can do. It’s like living in two
different worlds at the same time.
Fairytales vs. reality
by Rina Jo Gonzales, staff writer
Every little girl has always dreamed of
living this wonderful little fairytale life that surrounds
her, with nothing but her wonderful prince charming and
millions o white doves.
You tube encourages voyeurism
by Hope Perez, staff writer
Computer technology has exploded, and if
you have an idea and lots of imagination you can take that
idea to a new level, making your mark in the world and maybe
bringing yourself a few bucks.
Blinded by self esteem
by Omar Ojeda, staff writer
My opinion piece for this issue will be
calmer than my last opinion about my frustration with my
parking tickets.
Oh, and for those of you wondering how my
meeting went with the Dean, it was quite...enlightening.
West Texas born East Coast bound
by Jennifer Conlee, Feature editer
I’m getting ready to leave Texas.
I am a born-and-raised Lubbock girl, and
I have been straining at the ties that hold me here since I
was 12 years old. I’ve known for years that I would never go
to Texas Tech, UT, or any other large Texas university. My
family has been in Texas for several generations, and I’m
ready to leave.
