South Plains College’s clubs and
organizations will each be sending out one of their finest
members to represent them in the 49th annual Miss
Caprock pageant.
The pageant, which is hosted
by the Office of Student Activities, will be held on Nov. 17
in the Tom T. Hall Recording Production Studio in the Creative
Arts Building located on the Levelland campus.
The Miss Caprock pageant is
not a beauty contest. The contestants will have private
interviews during the afternoon with three professional
judges. During the evening, they will model casual wear and
evening wear. The top five contestants will be asked an
impromptu question based on information they provided.
“We are real excited that
this is the 49th annual, and we will be looking
forward to the 50th,” said Stan Weathered, director
of student activities. “It’s a long-standing tradition, and
it’s a good one, because it’s a scholarship pageant.”
To be in the
pageant, contestants have to meet the following requirements:
be a full-time student with a cumulative grade point average
of 2.0 or higher; be an active and contributing member of the
club they are representing; and not be on or have ever been on
scholastic probation.
“I feel very
privileged to be representing Upward Bound, and being a
positive representative of the Hispanic community,” said Karen
Martinez, one of the pageant contestants. “ I hope that
everyone can come see us and support us, since we are
representing SPC. We want to be supported by SPC, and good
luck to all the girls. I’m sure we will all look beautiful.”
The winning
contestant will receive a $500, scholarship and the runner- up
will receive a $300 scholarship
