One final rant

by Ray Buffington, editor-in-chief

After almost two years of writing columns that scream my liberal view on what I call the “Three R” topics (gay rights, religion, and ridiculous Republicans), my time as Editor-in-Chief of the “Plainsman Press” is coming, sadly but excitingly, to a close.

Problematic Politics Republicans, Democrats make them selves look bad

by Jacob Tucker, associate editor

The elections in the middle of a president’s term are commonly known as ‘midterm’ elections.

Video game violence less influential more profitable

by Robert Box, staff writer

A hot topic going around today is whether video games have become too violent for today’s youth.

Differences create sparks in relationship

by Amelia Gonzales, co-news editor

One of my favorite music videos when I was younger was Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract.”

Good manners matter

by Jonathan Kay, staff writer

While spending time observing and interacting with my fellow students at South Plains College, I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people have no clue about what manners are, or even a basic understanding of common decency. My question to the television-raised students of this school is, where did you learn to interact with people? Some act like 5 year olds who only take and don’t give anything back. Here is my top five list of pet peeves that bother me the most about people on this campus:

Dress appropriately for shows, theatre

by Jennifer Conlee, feature editor

I may be extremely old fashioned, but I believe that a person should dress up when he or she attends any type of theatre, whether it’s a Broadway show, community theatre, or just a children’s play.

Seize the moment, for life goes by quickly

by Priscilla Casanova, staff writer

How quickly our lives go by.

The days seem so short, yet the hours drag on and on.   Can one stop time?  The question isn’t enough to satisfy my curiosity. I need answers, and perhaps a whole discussion group is going to be necessary.  How much time do we have left, and what should we be doing with this precious amount of life we have left?

Success not without risk, opportunities

by Isa Torres, staff writer

Many people ask themselves to consider is the key to success.

You hear all kinds of speakers talking about what their secret is to get where they are now. Some say it’s perseverance, while some of them say it depends on how bad you want it. Some of them think it’s all about the effort.

War touches home twice in one lifetime

by Hope Perez, staff writer

It is said that the United States fell into the war in Vietnam and Iraq.

The United States is commonly known world wide as a country that values human life and its inherent rights.  So when I hear that we, as a country, fell into helping and participated in two wars, Vietnam and Iraq, the two main things I see they have in common is the destruction of a culture in the name of liberty and peace and the casualties that are affected across the nation then and now.

America nixes opportunity for Mexican dreams

by Rina Jo Gonzales, staff writer

In the early 1900s, Texas was once a part of Mexico.

I don’t understand why President George W. Bush would want to build that long stonewall that he speaks of on the news. What is it about the citizens of Mexico that makes him want to keep them out of the country? There are plenty of jobs in the United States that our own citizens are not willing to do.

'Highlights' of cosmetic change

by Brittany Bradford, co-entertainment editor

I recently went to my hairdresser for a different look. I wanted something different to make my eyes stand out and fit my face shape. I wanted to look more in style and just was sick of the way my boring brunette hair looked just hanging there so lifeless.
