Don't erase your flaws, embrace them

by Christopher Byram, co-opinion

Let me preface this by reminding everyone that we are all human.

That’s something we’re all aware of, I hope. To be human is to be many things. But when a person says, “She’s only human,” or, “He’s just a man,” that says something very significant about each of us.

Bugchasers exterminating themselves

by Jon Seaborn, editor-in-chief

Sometimes I hear about something that is so crazy that I just can’t believe it, even though I know it is real. Bugchasing is one of these things.

Bugchasers, according to www.wikipedia.org, is a slang term for a subculture of gay men who desire, and actively pursue, HIV infection. Bugchasers "chase the bug" by seeking sexual partners who are HIV-positive for the purpose of having unprotected sex and sero-converting. Gift givers are HIV-positive men who attempt to infect bugchasers with HIV.

Absolute tolerance key to understanding

by Hugo Reis, editorial assistant

Prejudice is unnamable. An allegory upon such fact calls for individual reflection of character: when two armies meet in the battlefield, two swords clash and stand still, tolerating a sublime moment of understanding of peace between differences.

Advertisements blur lines of reality

by Alex Everett, co-feature editor

Advertising is everywhere you look.

It is hard to deny its presence. The majority of advertising these days can be located electronically on the Internet or on television. I am sure that everyone has complained at least once about one commercial, and then later said how much they love another.

College rankings can be deceiving

by Homer Marquez, ad manager

A lot of our nation’s top universities may not be measuring up to the reputation given to them by some highly-touted college ranking polls.

According to a new ranking system done by The Washington Monthly, some other magazines may have missed the mark.

War reveals crack in America's armor

by Robert Stone, staff writer

All over the world, scoundrels are rising on a tide of American weakness.

It makes for a perilous future. President George W. Bush bet his presidency – and America’s world leadership-on the war in Iraq. Tragically, it looks as though he bit off more than the American people were willing to chew.

Being bilingual speaks volumes

by Isa Torres, staff writer

Having the ability to speak two languages is probably the best thing that could happen to me.

I have the ability to communicate with people. Different points of view from others are just easier for me to understand, because I can see it from two different perspectives.

Learning to appreciate life's greatest gifts

Dumbledore stumbles out of closet

by Emily Gillespie, staff writer

At Carnegie Hall, author J.K. Rowling recently let Dumbledore out of his cloak, by revealing a few Boggarts from of his “closet.” Blimey!

The great reveal of Dumbledore’s sexuality came from a simple question: did Dumbledore ever find true love? It’s a noteworthy question, considering how much Dumbledore emphasized it, with Rowling in her writing.

War on Terror terrible excuse for tyranny

by Sasha Malaeb, staff writer

Whether some like it or not, we’re going through a war right now and not just any war, but specifically a “war on terror.”

First off, let me explain my theories on this war. It’s stupid, hurtful, and nothing good is coming out of it so far.

Though strong, single parents need support

by Ali Flores, staff writer

It is not unheard of to come from a single-parent home.

In fact, it is heard about more now than it has ever been. Percentages have almost doubled since a decade ago. The rate of single-parent families in America is now up to 47 percent.

'Price' not so right with Carey

by Brant Thurmond, editorial assistant

For more than 35 years, the words “come on down” have had people glued to the CBS daytime show “The Price is Right.”

That is up until recently, when Barker decided to retire.
