Passion for music brings student out of retirement

Kirk Mlinek passionately says that he came to South Plains College to really learn about music, play it and be around people who love it as much as he does. At age 53, Mlinek has accomplished more than most SPC students.

Growing up in a small town in northwest Kansas, music became a part of Mlinek’s life at a young age. His parents arranged for organ lessons for him and his sister at the start of the sixth grade.

Foard's dedication adds up to classroom success

When Pat Foard was working as a teaching assistant, she realized that she had found her calling.

Foard, an assistant professor of mathematics at South Plains College, started her college-level teaching career at SPC in 1982 and has worked at the college for 25 years.

This is only part of the good that the volunteer fire department of Smyer is doing for local residents.

For the second year, the members of the Fire Department put together “Haunted Woods,” a frightful experience celebrating Halloween

 

Dia de los Muertos project educates students in cultural traditions

Lubbock group rescues greyhounds from death

There is a place in West Texas where greyhounds who have aged can call home.Greyhounds are very smart dogs and very adaptable. Each has its  own distinct personality. Some are shy and reserved, while some are very out-going and live their lives to the fullest. The are very friendly and thrive on attention and human companionship
