Miss Caprock crowning slated for Nov. 14

Young women representing South Plains College’s clubs and organizations will vie for the crown as the 51st annual Miss Caprock pageant approaches.

The pageant will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the Tom T. Hall Recording and Production  Studio in the Creative Arts Building. The event is hosted by the Office of Student Activities.

Julie Gerstenberger, associate professor of speech at SPC, will serve as the mistress of ceremonies.

The tickets to the event are $2 and can be purchased at the Student Activities Office in the Student Center, or at the door. Seating is limited though.

The contestants will model casual wear and evening wear. However, it is not a beauty pageant.

To be in the pageant, contestants have to meet the following requirements: be a full-time student with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher; be an active and contributing member of the club they are representing; and not be on or have ever been on scholastic probation.

The winning contestant will receive a $500 scholarship, and the runner-up will receive a $300 scholarship.

Fourteen young women will be representing SPC and their campus organization.

This year’s contestants include:

Miranda Nicole Adams, 18, is a freshman and a broadcast journalism major from Petersburg. She is the daughter of Mary and Jesse Adams of Petersburg. She was nominated by the SPC Cheerleaders.

Tera Sue Carroll, 18, is a freshman agricultural communications major from Hereford. She is the daughter of Georgianna and Mark Carroll of Hereford. She was nominated by Smallwood Apartments.

Sydni German, 19, is a freshman nursing major from Whiteface. She is the daughter of James and Debbie German of Whiteface. She was nominated by the Student Government Association.

Mackenzie Macha, 18, is a freshman nursing major from Levelland. She is he daughter of Dee and Rebecca Macha of Levelland. She was nominated by Phi Theta Kappa.

Katy Jo McCasland, 18, is a freshman apparel design/merchandise major from Clovis, N.M. She is the daughter of Lisa Jo McCasland of Clovis, N.M., and Ellis McCasland of Kerrville. She was nominated by Lamar Hall.

Jazmine Mojica, 19, is a sophomore electrical engineering major from Sudan. She is the daughter of Silvia and Eugenio Mojica of Sudan. She was nominated by Campus Abassadors.

Alicia Marie Montes, 23, is a freshman education major from Lubbock. She is the daughter of Alex and Linda Montes of Lubbock. She was nominated by the Hispanic Student Organization.

Jessica Victoria Neider, 20, is a sophomore education major from Lubbock. She is the daughter of Richard and Gloria Neider of Houston. She was nominated by the Baptist Student Ministries.

Yazmin Ortega, 19, is a sophomore education major from Denver City. She is the daughter of Juana and Pedro Ortega of Denver City. She was nominated by the STAR Center.

Abbie Potts, 19, is a freshman business major from Clovis, N.M. She is the daughter of Clint and Zandy Bunch of Clovis, N.,M. She was nominated by North Sue Spencer Hall.

M’Leesa Seals, 18, is a freshman law enforcement major from Plainview. She is the daughter of Kimberly and Walter Seals of Plainview. She was nominated by Law Enforcement.

Sarah Thompson, 20, is a sophomore business major from Seminole. She is the daughter of Danny and Suzanne Thompson of Seminole. She was nominated by Gillespie Hall.

Sarah Tucker, 18, is a freshman speech communications major from Levelland. She is the daughter of Pat Tucker and Linda Tucker, both Levelland. She ewas nominated by the Symphonic Band.

Lyndsey Wolf, 18, is a freshman public relations major from Wink. She is the daughter of Robbie and Gena Wolf of Wink. She was nominated by the Press Club.
