Reggie
Bush is No "Trojan Horse"
Ryan Rigdon, staff writer
I
find myself in the midst of a puzzling conundrum.
For years, I
have despised the
University
of Southern California Trojans. Don’t get me wrong. I respect
them like crazy, but I just can’t stand them.
This year is no
different. They are still atop all of the major polls, and they
are poised to win another national championship. Without
question, they have amazing talent. But I think their success
can be held completely on the shoulders of one man. Not a young
man, or a student folks, a Trojan M-A-N man.
Reggie Bush has
ruined my hopes and dreams as an Oklahoma Sooner fan, but let me
assure you, I am not jaded about the relevance Mr. Bush has on
the future of the game of football.
Unlike most
Americans, I saw the Trojans defeat the Fresno State Bulldogs on
Nov. 19 - Nov. 20. This game extended well into the night and
ended at 2:20 a.m. on the east coast, 1:30 a.m. CST, while even
the most avid fans and sportswriters slept. Thank you
insomnia. I was able to witness perhaps the most amazing
display of collegiate talent that has ever taken place.
Bush ran for
294 yards on his way to a 513-total yard performance against
Fresno State, and solidified his place in the Heisman race. I
find it hard to believe that anyone would vote for anybody but
Bush, but I guess there are people who just can’t ever be
convinced.
I would have
counted myself among those had I not witnessed him play both
last year and this year at such a high level. His performances
this season have only added to his value as a future premier
back in the National Football League. As it stands, Bush will
easily be a first-round draft pick. I predict that he should be
drafted first overall, no matter which team gets the first
pick. He is the most dangerous player in all of college
football on any given snap, and his unnatural athletic ability
has made him a Trojan legend.
Who knows if
USC will win the national championship? One can only
speculate. But one thing is for certain. Bush will be the match
that lights the flames for the Trojans for the rest of this
season. His combination of blazing speed and deceptive strength
will make him a household name for years to come.
