McCain crowned Miss Caprock

As the audience eagerly waited for the 50th Annual Miss Caprock Pageant to start, the contestants hurriedly got ready backstage. Kasey McCain was crowned Miss Caprock 2007 during the 50th annual Miss Caprock Scholarship Pageant, which was held Nov. 16 at the Tom T. Hall Recording and Production Studio in the Creative Arts Building.

The 2007 Miss Caprock, Haleigh Ballow, who is a sophomore at South Plains College majoring in elementary education, presented the crown.

SPC seeks grant to decrease nurse shortage

South Plains College will be applying for a $1.6 million grant to decrease the shortage of nurses in this area.

Stephen John, the vice president for institutional advancement at SPC, presented an overview of the grant during the November meeting of the South Plains College Board of Regents.

All-Class Reunion helps former students reconnect

In a society that so often has the “What have you done for me lately?” attitude, the past met the present as South Plains College was able to remember its beginning while looking to the future during the All-Class Reunion.

“I think this is important, because it allows us to reconnect with alumni and original supporters,” said current college President Dr. Kelvin Sharp.  “This allows us to get back to our roots.  We so often get caught up with the current, and this helps us reconnect with the past.”

Comet Connection provides students with fixed tuition rates

Comet Connection, a program developed to help transfer students, recently added 12 Texas community colleges, including South Plains College, to their growing roster.

Created to assist the University of Texas at Dallas students and their families with their budget and financial situations, Comet Connection guarantees four years of fixed tuition and fees, as well as other enrollment benefits.

 

Supreme Court justice shares insights on life, law in Lubbock

Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female associate justice for the United States Supreme Court, recently came to Lubbock to share her insights on life and law.

O’Connor was the first guest to speaker for the lecture series named after her presented by the Texas Tech School of Law.  She spoke to thousands of people at the United Spirit Arena on Nov. 16.

El Camino, Guitar to be raffled off

With Christmas just around the corner, the chance of receiving a car or guitar seems quite enticing.

Just in time for the holidays, students, faculty, and area residents now have the chance to do just that, as two South Plains College programs have announced raffles to benefit their student scholarships.

Phi Theta Kappa inducts 28 SPC students

South Plains College recently inducted 28 students into the Kappa Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

The event was held Nov. 12 in the Sundown Room of the Student Center on the Levelland campus.
