Annual Christmas Tree Lighting slated for Dec. 2
by Norma Rodriquez, feature editor
Nothing says Christmas like hot
chocolate, singing, Christmas lights, and Santa Claus.
South Plains College’s Office of
Student Activities is hosting an opportunity to get into the
Christmas spirit. On Dec. 2, SPC will hold its annual
Christmas Tree Lighting, an ongoing tradition for 51 years.
The festivities will begin around 5:30
p.m. with music from the children from surrounding schools.
Levelland Christian School is scheduled to perform at 5:45
p.m. The countdown for the lighting will begin, and at 6
p.m. Dr. Kelvin Sharp, president of South Plains College,
will flip the switch. The lights on the trees in the front
of the campus, as well as the lights the rest of the
Levelland campus, will light up.
Shortly after the lighting, everybody
is invited to stay for Santa’s arrival on a fire truck.
Santa will greet everyone, and invite everyone inside the
Student Center for hot chocolate, cookies, donuts, and
wassail.
The event is free, and the students and
the community are invited to join in on this tradition.
