Dinning on a Dollar with Ray
Ray Edward Buffington IV, entertainment news

When trying to “dine on a dollar”, the typical College Student is extremely picky about where he or she would like to eat.

Budget buffeting gets old, quicker than yesterday’s recycled three times over food that you get to choose from at your local buffet (what I also like to call “ the trough “), and sometimes can be pretty expensive. College students should be able to go out and have a relaxed, sit-down dinner somewhere that has tasty food, decent prices, and quality service without having a guilty conscience, sick stomach, and an empty wallet. I set out to find these places.

This week, I visited an establishment called Uncle Chien’s Chinese & Thai Restaurant, located on at 3004 34th St., Lubbock, Texas. A tiny place, no bigger than the average efficiency so many of us have lived in before, it is hard to miss with the bright white and red neon sign, stating its name, that is almost as big as the building.

As I walked in, I was immediately enticed with a delicious smell that set my mouth watering and stomach growling. Always a good sign. The inside was just as small as it looked on the outside, the room containing no more than ten, white table clothed tables, a cooler for soft drinks, and a condiment/utensil counter. Cute and cozy.

Being so small of a room, the restaurant was set up in an Order-at-the-Counter style. Definitely not as grand as being waited upon, but a big plus for I noted I would not be required to leave a tip, another conflict a student meets when trying to eat out. Fifteen percent adds up, and sometimes it can even buy you another meal later on in the week.

After being greeted by a very friendly, host-like employee, I was handed a menu. Over fifty entrees filled the page with their delicious sounding words.
