Local Station Celebrates Birthday in Concert

 Desiree Mendez, staff writer

A large crowd gathered at the Lonestar Event Center recently for the doors to open for the 25th FMX birthday bash.

A total of 2000 people came out to celebrate the birthday of Lubbock radio station KFMX-FM. The concert was a soldout event. The band line featured Neverset, Halestorm, Hinder, Flyleaf, Dark New Day, Shinedown, and Seether. The afterparty was with Faktion.

The first band to take the stage was Neverset. They are from Dallas, and they have a CD titled, “Behind Every Door.” When they took the stage, the crowd went wild. Neverset may remind some of Linkin Park but 10 times better. As they performed, songs from their CD, one of the band members climbed on top of the speakers and was signing from there, before jumping into the crowd. The crowd caught him, and he crowd surfed back to the stage. This drove the crowd wild.

The next band to perform was Halestorm. The lead singer of this band is female. She drove the crowd crazy with her amazing vocals, along with her metal scream. Halestorm is from Red Lion, Pennsylvania. The band did a drum circle, as the whole band was playing on the drums. The crowd loved it.

Hinder was the next band to take the stage. The song they performed when they walked out on stage was “How Long.” Hinder just released a CD title, “Extreme Behavior.” The crowd loved Hinder. People were head banging, crowd surfing and starting mosh pits. Everyone sang along with them when they performed the number one single “Get Stoned.” They blew the crowd away.

The fourth band that took the stage was a band from Temple, Texas. The band was Flyleaf. The singer of the band was also a female. The crowd cheered for Flyleaf when they were taking the stage. They have a single out titled, “I’m so sick.” The crowd loved the song. It was the first time for them to perform in Lubbock. Everyone sang along with them.

Everyone waited patiently for Dark New Day to take the stage, before Shinedown and Seether would perform. The girls go crazy over Bret Hestla, lead singer of Dark New Day, as he begins to sing their new song, “Pieces.”

The crowd waits patiently for Shinedown to take the stage. The Florida-based group has two CDs out, “Leave a Whisper” and “Us and Them.” The crowd loved them.

The last band that took the stage was Seether. As soon as they got on stage, everyone was screaming for them. Everyone was crowd surfing and head banging. They played songs from their old and new CD. They were awesome. People were starting mosh pits and screaming for them to play “Remedy.”

The afterparty took place after Seether in the Winchester. The space was limited to 250 people.

Faktion is from Dallas and Brett Hestla, of Dark New Day, co-produced their CD. They have their first CD coming out March 2006.

Josh Franklin from Faktion said, “ I love being back in Lubbock, and it’s so much fun being able to play for the FMX birthday bash.”

Faktion blew the crowd away with their single, “ Take it all away.”
