'Underworld' Story Evolves in Sequel

 Brooke Heald, staff writer

“Underworld Evolution” is a sequel to “Underworld,” which surprised audiences everywhere with the fantasy plot and amazing graphics.

As the war between vampires and lykens (werewolves) rages on, the legacy of both races is revealed. In a fictional world full of blood, killing, betraying, and even love, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) a vampire warrior, has to face the consequences of killing a vampire elder. Selene and Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman) have to face some of the worst things imaginable.

Michael is the only known hybrid (half vampire, half lyken), and he caused a ripple in both worlds. Selene finds out that her own kind has betrayed her, which makes the plot of the sequel about her rage of hurt and deceit. Marcus (Tony Curran), who is the first vampire elder born of that blood instead of having changed into one, has come back to life as a new species of vampire.

Corvenius (Derek Jacobi) is the father of Marcus and William. They are brothers, except William was born a lyken, the strongest ever known.

“Underworld Evolution” is about Selene and Michael working together to figure out the never-ending puzzle of who is bad and who is good. They go on an adventure to find Marcus and get to William before he does. If they don’t, it will unleash a horrible kind of evil. There are many deaths and a lot of gore, but it is all worth it.

The movie is directed by Len Wisemen. He does a wonderful job, and the graphics and the story line are fascinating. No one could have asked for a better sequel, as Wiseman comes back with the perfect plot. There are two small clips of nudity in this movie, which weren’t in the first one. But other than that, the movie is incredible and very pleasing.

I would recommend that you see the first “Underworld” before seeing this movie. It would be hard to follow without having seen the first movie. I rate this movie a five-star film. It exceeded my expectations and definitely proved to be out of this world. This movie even makes you wish we had vampires and lykens, or that we were them.
