From Christmas Break to Conference Play... Texans Off to Strong Start

The South Plains College men’s basketball team had used a 14-game winning streak during the past two months to jump into the thick of the race for the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Championship.

Lady Texans Gunning to Continue Success

A year after their most successful year ever, the South Plains College Lady Texans are battling for a repeat performance.

 The Lady Texans defeated Howard College 70-48 on Jan. 30.  SPC had a double-digit lead five minutes into the game. Howard tried fighting back, but their attempts were thwarted by SPC, which placed fourth in the nation at the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament in 2005.

BCS Still Needs Work Despite Memorable Season

The 2005-2006 NCAA football season was on many fronts, a huge success.  Television ratings shot through the roof, the Bowl Championship Series actually worked for once and star power filled the stage for the National Championship game on Jan. 4. The assumed top three picks in the upcoming NFL draft highlighted, arguably, the best National Championship game in years, if not ever.

 

Italy Welcomes World with Olympic Arms

In 2002, the Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City, Utah, only a matter of months after the Sept. 11 attacks on New York City.

With patriotism running high in the blood of Americans, the United States chalked up a grand total of 34 medals. The U.S. walked away with 10 gold, 13 silver and 11 bronze medals in Salt Lake City, lifting American spirits even higher.
