Little gifts to revive your relation ship

by Jennifer Conlee, co-associate editor

Valentine’s day should be a day of romance, a day of lovers walking hand-in-hand down the street.

Hello I am addicted to Guitar Hero Two

by Jon Seaborn, editor-in-chief

Welcome to my first opinion of the first student newspaper for which I now serve as editor-and-chief.

I know that I have some big shoes to fill, coming in to lead after Ray Buffington, a great editor. But I think the paper is going no where but up.

Reality TV: When enough is enough

by Laura Norris, news editor

Everybody has a guilty pleasure.

My guilty pleasure is reality television. Yes, I know, it’s shameful. But I know I’m not the only one addicted to this form of television programming. Even though I love to watch this distorted, exaggerated, and sometimes even fictitious, television, now is the time to say “Enough!”.

Fun nights, unforgettable memories

by Amelia Gonzales, feature editor

I find it amazing that when your eyes are shut how many things really happen.

I found out recently there is this so-called “rule” that when you are intoxicated and you fall asleep with your shoes on, you are fair game to having a group of your “friends” mess with you. If your shoes are off, then you are showing to this group of “friends” that you had every intention of going to sleep and that they have no right to mess with you.

At the MacWorld San Francisco 2007 Keynote Address, Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled Apple’s most recent projects, Apple TV and the iPhone.

Smokers get slapped with tax increase

by Shane Jester, staff writer

Black Monday, as I like to call it, marked a depressing day for smokers across the state of Texas.

The Texas Legislature, as of January 1, 2007, decided they would institute a $1 tax increase on every pack of cigarettes and a $10 increase on every carton sold in Texas. This means that thousands of smokers across the state are forced to cough up (no pun intended) extra money that they do not have. I understand that the politicians who proposed this tax increase did so because it might push many people to kick the habit, and I assume that many people will. But at the same time, many will not.

Put your scarves down, no snow on way

by Sawyer Thomas, online editor

With crazed people grappling over carts at the local supermarket, cars going out of control, it looked like a scene from “The Day After Tomorrow” (featuring my baby daddy, Jake Gyllenhaal).  But, when the weatherman said that we were supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow, I was overcome with joy.    Because snow means no work, school is cancelled, and days of laying about not having to be productive.

Now it's time to say goodbye... Thanks to those who inspired, encouraged, supported me during my years at SPC

by Omar Ojeda, staff writer

The time for giving, joyous love, and celebrating Jesus’ birth is approaching fast, as the holidays are right around the corner.

It’s a time when families get together and spend an evening or a day doing quality things that they hardly get to do because of everyone’s otherwise hectic lifestyle. It’s a time when customers who are trying to “beat the crowd” are stampeding the malls and shopping centers around the nation. But we all know that never works. It’s also a time of depression for some people who don’t have any family, home, or money.

Last Christmas, Christians throughout the United States were in an uproar.

During the shopping season, many stores thought that it would be offensive to many of their shoppers if they greeted them with the age-old phrase, ‘Merry Christmas,’ because of its Christian origin.  So they decided to replace the phrase with the politically correct version, ‘Happy Holidays.’

Through the previous issues of this semester that is about to end, you have probably noticed my spiritual perspective on life.

My belief is that we are a creation of God, that we deserved to die because of our sins, and that God sent His only son to give us a chance to have eternal life.

I know that we are currently in a Myspace generation, but some of this nonsense has to stop.

I will be the first to admit it. I have a Myspace. And yes, it is very addicting. But I am tired of everyone making such a big deal about who is on their list of top friends and why they aren’t among someone else’s top friends. Ok people, so here is the deal. Myspace is a way to meet people and showoff that you have friends, essentially, right? So lets all grow up and stop acting like our top friends are gods.

Straightedge is  a common sense thing.

It has been my way of life for a while now. I was first offered weed and alcohol when I was 10. Now that I reflect back on that, it was a very pivotal moment in my life. Had I said, “yes”, I would be in a completely different state. But I said, “no”, and since then I have maintained those values.
