Lady Texans remain unbeaten shooting for perfection

Holding on strong to the No. 1 spot in the national rankings, the South Plains College Lady Texans held on to their 21-0 season with their 75-57 victory against Odessa College’s Lady Wranglers.

The Lady Texans shot 63 percent from the field in the first half, leading 39-21 at the break.  SPC ended the game shooting 59 percent from the field.

Roberson led the Lady Texans with 20 points, while Dominic Seals contributed 16, Mariame Djouara added 13 and Alana Rumph had 10.

Also for SPC, Brittany Blackmon scored seven points, Ashely Malone chipped in six points, and A.J. Adams added one point. Ashley Frazier scored two points, while also serving out eight assists. Seals also pulled down eight rebounds.

The Lady Texans defeated Clarendon College 88-58 at Texan Dome on Jan. 22.

Clarendon scored the first five points of the game, SPC answered with 10 in a row. The Lady Texans led 49-22 at halftime.

The SPC lead grew as wide as 35 in the second half, after Adams hit a pair of 3-pointers and  Seals scored three consecutive field goals in the paint.

The Lady Texans had five players score in double figures.  Adams finished with 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers. Roberson and Seals both chipped in 15 points, while Djouara scored 14, and Brittany Blackmon added 12 points. Also, Krystal Davis scored eight and Ashley Frazier added seven points for the Lady Texans.

During January, the Lady Texans also beat the Western Texas College Lady Westerners, 82-60. in Snyder.

SPC scored 48 points in the first half and shot 60 percent from the field before halftime. Roberson led the Lady Texans with 19 points, while Seals added 18, Frazier chipped in 14, and Djouara and Blackmon both finished with 10. Also, Adams scored eight and Malone added three.

Going for more than four minutes without a point in the second half, the Lady Texans clung on to win by a 22-point margin.

The Lady Texans were in Midland on January 15, pulling off a 56-52 victory against the Midland College Lady Chaps. Frazier sank two free throws with four seconds remaining to help the Lady Texans.

The game was tied 50-50 with 3:36 left in the game, but SPC held off Midland from then on. Blackmon and Frazier each hit free throws to help give the Lady Texans the victory.

Frazier and Blackmon led the Lady Texans with 13 points each, while Seals added 11, Rumph had seven, and Roberson scored six. Adams, Djouara and Malone each chipped in two.
