Government withholds truth
by Alex Everett, co-feature editor
The government has its ways of passing acts and new bills
without much fanfare, without publicity on the major TV news
stations and newspapers.
This is the way they want it, a nation
that does not ask questions, or look into what they are
doing.
Generation warped by pop culture trends
by Justin Lopez, staff writer
I recently read that in May
2006, President George W. Bush began to peruse an act to
erase all borders between Canada, the United States and
Mexico.
Not only is this insane, but
this confuses me. I have read several different versions of
this so-called “act,” which further proves that the Bush
administration has no clue about what they are doing. This
is frustrating to me, because they look like a bunch of
chickens running around with their heads cut off.
Mistakes in living teach lessons in life
by Laura Cain,
co-entertainment editor Being
in college is said to be one of the most exciting times in a
person’s life.
As we move along in school, it just gets better and better.
We all hated elementary school, so when we got to junior
high, it was definitely an improvement. When we got to high
school, it was much more enjoyable than junior high.
Truth that "lies" in relationships
by Becka Rutledge,
co-entertainment editor
The truth can be crazy. It can confuse you so greatly that
you would rather believe a lie. That leads you to become a
liar and make those around you and close to you liars also.
This breads mistrust. It breads mistrust between you and
your romantic partner, your family, your friends and your
coworkers.
Really where does mistrust and lies
lead us? Nowhere is where it leads us. We find ourselves
looking and searching for every tiny mismatch in a story and
every “I don’t remember” turns into a million bad situations
that could have happened and the other person just doesn’t
want to tell you about what really went on.
Intolerance of race found at my workplace
by Sasha Malaeb, staff writer
There are some things that we cannot change about the human
race. And one of those things is their inability to keep
their minds open and their opinions decent.
Living in Lubbock is a bad thing, not
so bad, but a bad thing nonetheless. While at work one day,
after checking out an Indian family, my co-worker turns to
me and says, “I hate all Arabs, I hope that they all just
die.”
Underage drinking becoming life-or-death situation
by Kendra Halsell
I think that underage
drinking is a really big problem. But recently it has become
a greater problem.
I don’t think that teens know
the effects that alcohol can have on their actions, their
feelings, or on their health. Teens who engage in underage
drinking can have feelings of sadness, they can display
strong anger, and they could harm their livers. If that teen
who has been drinking decides to drive, he or she could not
only be endangering his or her own life, but could also be
endangering the lives of others.
