"Carnival" ready for four - day run

“Carnival” is getting prepared to hit the lights, draw
up the curtain, and let the orchestra take over.
The South Plains College Theater Arts Program will be
presenting “Carnival,” a musical. The book was written by Michael Stewart,
with music and lyrics written by Bob Merrill.
Tickets, which can be purchased at the door are $10 for
adults and $5 for students.
“Carnival” is directed by Gene Cole, associate
professor of theatre arts at SPC, and the orchestra will be conducted by Jon
Johnson, professor of music and chairperson of the Fine Arts Department. It
features violinists Ed Cornelsen, James Ellis, Brian Gum and Robert Meinecke;
flute, Ashley Beckton, bass, Carl Meinecke, clarinet/saxophone, George
Riddell and Lynda Reid; trumpet, Gary Hudson and Scott Couch; bass clarinet,
Ashley McNelly; trombone, Bruce Keeling and John Landin; percussion, Al
Gardner and Gabriel Hernandez, and piano, Donna Ham.
Musical numbers include “ Love Makes the World Go
Round,” the theme for the show; “A Sword and a Rose and a Cape,” “I’ve Got
to Find a Reason,” “Her Face,” “Cirque de Paris,” “Always Always You,” and “
Yum Ticky Ticky Tum Tum.”
The production staff includes: choreographers, Karen
Reams and Susan Daniel; assistant director, Ruth Cunningham; set and light
design, Easton Day; stage manager, Joanie Harrell; box office, Ruth
Cunningham; wardrobe, Mariel Ramirez; sound engineer, Rebecca Gonzales;
light board operator, Faith Lowery; props, Randal Ramirez; pin rail,
ShaTonia Chancey and Andrea Cook; publicity and photos, Wes Underwood, and
poster/program designer, Calvin Hudgins.
The curtain will open on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Other
performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26, with a
matinee set at 2 p.m. on Feb 27.
