Woes of Writing: Journalism not as safe as it used to be
by Giovanni Rosendo, associate editor
Recently, a new video has been aired with Carroll asking that people do
whatever they can to meet the terrorists’ demands “as quickly as possible.”
Of course, due to new laws passed against terrorist funding, the demands
being made are far from being fulfilled.
Conflicting Convictions: Misunderstanding Reasoning in a Time of War
by Kevin L. Mayer, co-news editor
It is who begins and who
ends the conflict, that gets discussed the most. However, during a conflict,
all that can be heard is the complaining.
Scientology Dips 'Alien' Hand into Unsuspecting Pocketbooks
by Cody Flores, staff writer
Aliens, volcanoes, and
thetans. Come on what is wrong with people? This isn’t a religion; it’s a
movie script. We already have Tom Cruise on board. Let’s sign up Spielberg
and put this thing on the big screen where it belongs.
Working in the Face of Prejudices
by Cody Flores, staff writer
Ever since 9/11, my life
has been just a little bit more hectic.
What
is crazy is I am not even Afghanistani or Iraqi. My father was born in Iran,
and my mother was born right here in West Texas. Therefore, I guess that
makes me some sort of Iranian-Caucasian mix. I am proud of my heritage, and
I am proud to be of Middle Eastern decent. There is such a rich culture and
background coming out of the Middle East, and I am a part of that. My
heritage is something I value greatly.
Reasons and Rewards... Discovering a New Way to Live
by Amelia Gonzales, staff writer
Since the beginning of the
semester, I have been experiencing what I would call a living hell.
I set
myself up to lose 15 pounds and have managed to lose four pounds in three
weeks. In all reality, I feel and look the same as I did.
I'll Take It... Non - Denominational
by Amelia Gonzales, staff writer
Until I moved back to
Lubbock
in August, I hadn’t even prayed, much less attend church. On my
dog tags, for the lists
that says your religious preference, mine simply says no religious
preference.
More than Valentines...Reflecting on Black History Month
by Omar Ojeda, staff writer
The first few thoughts that
people usually have when they hear ‘February’ is mainly love, hearts, and
income tax, for those in the working class. I think a big part of February
that takes place, which a lot of people may not think about, is that it’s
Black History Month. It’s a big part of American culture, whether we admit
it or not.
Winning Freedom with Our Words
by Adam Guerra, staff writer
Speech without a voice is
like a harp with no strings. Many people guide themselves and others with
the opinions expressed through their own mind. Old philosophers and new
modern writers have created beauty from the words spoken or written
throughout society. From Hitler’s spellbinding aura of persuasion to Martin
Luther King Jr's dream, we would only have to be inspired by the integrity
and noticeable appearance of words standing out so visibly, so emotionally
detailed.
