Sets Six School Records at First Indoor Meet

The South Plains Texan
track and field team broke six school records while beginning the season at
the Wes Kittley Indoor Open at Texas Tech University.
SPC
brought home titles in the men’s and women’s triple jump. Zulaykah Ali
placed first in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 11 inches.
Shardae Boutte placed first in the men’s triple jump with a jump of 49 feet,
¾ inches. Both SPC students broke their own school records that they set
last year.
In the
men’s 55-meter hurdles, Patrick Lee placed second and set a school record
with a time of 7.34 seconds. Matt Pugh finished eighth with a time of 7.67
seconds, and Tim O’Donnell was 14th in 7.96 seconds.
In the
women’s 55-meter hurdles, Danete Wright placed eighth with a time of 8.50
seconds.
In the
men’s 55- meter dash, Perry Harris placed ninth with a time of 6.45 seconds.
In the
woman’s 55-meter dash, Marissa Henderson finished 11th and set a
school record with a time of 7.36 seconds, while October Wells was 12th
with a time of 7.40 seconds, and Lakisha Tucker was 13th in 7.41
seconds.
In the
women’s 400-meter dash, Carmen Dennis placed seventh with a time of 58.95
seconds
In the
men’s 400-meter dash, Jacobi Mitchell finished 14th clocking in
at 50.03 and Jehrome White was 20th with a time of 51.80.
In the
men’s 600-yard run, Reuben Twijukye placed second and set a school record
with a time of 1:08.96. Harold Jackson was sixth with a time of 1:13.67,
while Sammie Ivory IV was eighth in 1:14.31, Jamaal Butler was 10th
with a time of 1:14.94, and Calvin Ray was 12th in 1:17.60.
In the
men’s one-mile run, John Kosgei placed third with a 4:19.24 clocking, while
Josphat Melly placed fifth with 4:24.15 and Chase Wade was 11th
in 4:42.93.
In the
women’s one-mile run, Valentine Chebogut finished 18th with a
time of 5:40.00, Krystai Charles was 22nd with a time of 5:46.03
and Britney Ramos was 23rd with a time of 5:47.43.
In the
men’s 4x400 meter relay, the SPC team of Aaron Smith, Ivory, Jackson and
Derrick Reescano placed second with a time of 3:17.28. Twijuke, Butler,
Mitchell and Lee placed third with a time of
3:17,56; and the team of Pugh, O’Donnell, Ray and Harris finished
11th in 3:29.43.
In the
women’s 4x400 meter relay, Dominique Jacobs, Wright, Dennis and Happy Mary
Bacia placed fifth with a time of 4:02.25. Ali, Devyn Mitchell, Cycelye
Tuitt and Wells placed seventh with a time of 4:17.62, and the team of
Marissa Henderson, Cedonia Allen, Sharay Cottell and Tucker finished 10th
with a time of 4:28.67.
In the
men’s pole vault, Jorden Wood, Jared Jennings and Cinton Senn all placed 13th
after clearing 13-1½, while Chris Pounds finished 18th with a height of
12-7½.
Finally, in the women’s shot put, Jessica Wilson placed fifth and set a
school record with a throw of 43 feet, 18 inches, while Kelli Clements
placed eighth with a throw of 40 feet, 10½ inches.
