The family of Peggy Merimon has been waiting anxiously for six months now to hear that she has been found after disappearing in the late summer of 2006.

'TNL' Brings variety of talented musicians to SPC stage

South Plains College students have once again been given the chance to witness future star musicians in action at “Thursday Nite Live”.

TNL, which is one of the many ensembles offered in the Commercial Arts program, performs a show on the first Thursday of every month, featuring several genres of music, including rock and country.

“We have a new rhythm section,” said TNL director Cary Banks, “and a saxophone player, so we can do a wider variety of music, including classic rhythm and blues, jazz, and pop.”

Former SPC student Caldwell composes score for new movie

South Plains College is becoming known worldwide as the best school for students who have chosen commercial music as their field of study.

Many students who have graduated from SPC with a degree in commercial music have gone on to have a great career in the music industry, whether they choose to perform or work in the business.

Recently, Governor Rick Perry made a controversial decision to make it mandatory for all girls starting at age 9 to receive the Gardasil vaccine starting by September 2008.

The decision angered many of the members of the Texas House of Representives along with many of the state’s parents.

The Gardasil vaccine is designed to prevent the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This is the most common of all sexually-transmitted diseases in America. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that about 6.2 million Americans become infected with HPV each year. As many as half of American women get infected by the time they reach 50 years old.

Wheeler rocks geology students

William “Bill” Wheeler, has impacted students at South Plains College with a world of science, challenges and entertaining knowledge for many years.

Wheeler, a geology instructor and assistant professor of chemistry, says that geology has been a part of his live since he was young. has been a part of his life since he was young. Soon after graduating from Merkel High School, he joined the United States Air Force. He served as a flight simulator technician, maintaining planes and instructing student pilots in instrument flying. Wheeler worked his way up to master sergeant, earning two commendations for administrative skills He traveled with the Air Force all around Texas and Mississippi. In the summer of 1976, Wheeler retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service.

When life throws the hardest times at you, living those experiences can lead you to lose the love for life, or it can lead you to depend on someone, to depend on God.


Haileigh Ballow, a freshman at South Plains College, has had very hard moments in her life. But nonetheless, she has learned to give her life to her God.
