Regents discuss fire, spring
enrollment

Scholarships, spring enrollment and the recent fire at the
Technical Arts Building were among the topics of discussion
at the February meeting of the South Plains College Board of
Regents.
'Race into Your Career' at Job Fair on
March 6

Students will be able to meet with employers from different
companies and have an opportunity to gain valuable
information about their careers during the Job Fair in
March. The Job Fair is being organized
and directed by Susan Rushing, job placement counselor at
SPC. One of the main purposes of the event is to “connect
students and community members with employers,” said
Rushing.

As the deadline for applying for scholarships at South
Plains College draws nearer, current students are being
urged to submit their applications to be considered for
receiving aid.
Students get SPC e-mail

Communication between professors and students at South
Plains College is improving.
This semester, SPC is now providing
students with email addresses for easier communication with
fellow students, professors, clubs and organizations, among
others.

The crowning of the king and queen was the highlight of
South Plains College’s Homecoming this year.
The festivities were held Feb. 12
during half time of the men’s basketball game against
Western Texas College.

scholarships that we administer through the scholarship
office,” said Stephen John, vice president for institutional
advancement at SPC.

memories.
The students that help organize these
events must be hardworking and dedicated.
Legislators eying tax-free textbooks

Every semester, college students endure the frustrating task
of buying textbooks.
Not only must they crowd into small campus bookstores and
wait through long lines, they have to pay hundreds of
dollars for books. To relieve the financial burden of
attending college, Texas legislators are considering a
tax-free period for textbooks.
