Mixing friendship with work causes lack of respect
by Amelia Gonzales, feature editor
For some reason or another I have
always been the type of person who gets advice and rather
than listening to it, I do the total opposite of what the
advice was.
I’ve worked as an assistant manager at
a small retail store in the mall for a little more six years
now. I’ve had the opportunity to work with at least 100
girls, due to the high turnover rate. I’ve met some really
hard-working girls, and some really lazy ones as well. I’ve
met some looking to make that job a long-time career, and
some just looking for something that will get them through
high school or college.
Overcoming differences with sweetness: Beauties, Geeks learn
to get along
by Jennifer Conlee, co-associate editor
’m not really a fan of reality television.
I can survive without “Survivor”, “Big
Brother” is no big deal, and all the shows about finding
true love just remind me that I have yet to find my true
love.
Gift of life too good to pass up by Isa Torres, staff writer
Life is a lovely gift.
Life is something we don’t deserve, something we shouldn’t
have ever seen.
We don’t understand that life does not belong to us, and we
try to control it. We try to live it to the fullest without
accomplishing anything.
Building work ethic through hard labor
by Omar Ojeda, staff writer
I’ve recently experienced certain
things that made my mind tick a little.
I am no longer steadily employed, for
at least a month anyway, but have managed to find a way to
make a paycheck for a few weeks.
When I decided to no longer work for my
father at the convenience store, I asked an elderly friend
if he needed any help with finishing ginning his cotton
modules at our local co-op. He told me he could always use
help, so I helped him for three days, totaling 36 hours.
'Mac'ing on Windows by Sawyer Thomas, online editor
In the computer war that has been raging since before I was
born, Windows and Mac have always been competing for the top
spot among consumers and businesses alike.
Recently, the war has been getting more
and more intense. With Apple releasing things such as the
oh-so-successful iPod, Windows-based clients have been
trying to release things such as handheld devices that run a
mini-Windows operating system.
Horror films more ridiculous than
scary
by Heather Daniel, editorial assistant
Horror films have been around since the end of 1896, when
the silent movie “The Devils Castle” was the kick off of
that genre.
However, 1981 was the year that 54
horror movies plagued the screen with titles such as: “An
American Werewolf in London,” “The Evil Dead”, “Halloween
II,” “My Bloody Valentine” and many more. They also do not
show any signs of stopping.
Secret language of women
by Brittany Bradford, entertainment editor
In the middle of a beautiful garden, there was a large green
tree of life gleaming with forbidden fruit.
Since Eve first picked the apple from
the tree, men have yet to learn, understand, or possibly
even decode, the secrets of women. To men, many things women
say come across as a foreign language at times. Women are
complex, and I will admit, as a woman, many times what we
say is hardly ever what we mean.
What happens here, stays here by Sawyer Thomas, online editor
This is the story of six friends, brought from all corners
of the globe to one spot, to one special point in life.
Surrounded by a life of perpetual parties, a never-ending
fountain of drinks, and laughter filling the room, life
seemed to stop. It felt as if the party would never stop
and the dancing would last forever.
Lubbock, boring side of Texas by Alex Everett, ad/graphic design editor
Like many young
adults attending college, I was craving complete
independence and decided that I wanted to move and go to
college. When I first decided to move to Lubbock I am not
exactly sure what was running threw my mind, besides the
fact that my older brother was already living in Lubbock so
I wouldn’t a complete stranger to the town.
Political differences, media taking
support away from troops by Jason Logan, staff writer
The mainstream, liberal media has been nothing but a
detriment to the war effort and to American morale
surrounding the situation.
We need to have a united state of
thinking, whether we disagree politically or not. The media
needs to embrace a more forward way of thinking. Someone
needs to step up and just start reporting the truth without
bias, without any political slant. The media of late stands
to destroy the trust of the American people and create a
dissent among us.
Bad things happen to drunk people by Sawyer Thomas, online editor
The life of the party knows, that in any instance, getting
intoxicated has certain repercussions that may or may not be
good. Sure, when on the juice you can have some good
times. Some say that you kind of slow down, but my witty
repartee is in full swing after a few sips of the tonic. My
snide, yet humorous comments become faster and I become
funnier then I usually am when I’m sober.
College pays if students stay in state by Robert Box, staff writer
Reaching Out a Helping to
Students, and Pulling Them Back
Students may have more incentive to stay close to home while
going to college, besides getting clothes washed and having
home-cooked meals.
Homeless man's death goes unjustified by Laura Norris, news editor
There is a new, vicious action that’s sweeping the nation.
It’s called “bum-hunting.”
Some of you may have no idea what that
is, because I had never heard of it until recently. It’s
where people, mostly teenage boys (as statistics have shown)
stalk and attack homeless people. Sometimes these attacks
end in death.
