Track teams garner more national qualifiers

South Plains College’s track and field squads looked to gain additional qualifiers for the upcoming national meet while competing at the Texas Tech Open at the Tech Athletic Training Center in Lubbock recently.

John Kosgei placed first in the men’s one-mile run with a time of 4:10.58. Josphat Melly finished fifth in 4:28.72, and Jay Wilson was sixth (4:29.12). Also, T.K.

Revis placed 21st (4:52.66), Michael Hernandez was 25th in a time of 5:03.46 and Lance

Medina placed 27th in 5:05.85.

In the men's 800-meter run, Chris Jones finished first with a time of 1:56.85.

Joshua Katam placed sixth in 2:02.20, and Chase Wade finshed ninth in a time of 2:03.16. Sammie Ivory IV was 11th in 2:03.48, and Harold Jackson finished 16th (2:07.30).

Darrell Roddick placed first in the men’s high jump with a leap of 6-11. Kendrick Poullard finished third at 6-9, Marlon Smith was sixth (6-7) and Dalton Atkins placed 13th with a jump of 6-1 ¼.

In the men's 4x800-meter relay, the Texans "A" team placed first with a time of 7:43.35 . Also, in the men's pole vault, Derrick Taylor finished second at 15-7 1/4.

In the triple jump, Derrick Reescano finished second with a leap of 49-5 1/2 and O'Brian Coles placed sixth at 47-4 1/2.

In the shot put, Texan Tyler Menges placed second with a throw of 50-5 ¼. In the men's long jump, Aaron Smith III finished third with a jump of 23-8 ¼, while Reescano placed fourth (23-6). In the men's 1,000-meter run, Wilson placed third with a time of 2:35.83, Revis placed sixth in 2:44.81 and Hernandez finished eighth in a time of 2:49.46.

In the men's 4x400-meter relay, SPC’s "A" team placed third with a time of 3:16.57. Also, in the men's 200-meter dash, Smith finished fourth in a time of 21.81 seconds. In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Patrick Lee finished fourth in a time of 8.13 seconds, and in the weight throw, Chris Johnson placed fourth with a toss of 46-9.

Mike Charles was 12th with a time of 6.62 seconds in the 55-meter dash, and in the men's 400-meter dash, Jamaal Butler finished 17th with a time of 51.77 seconds.

In the women’s races, Alba Knight placed first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 58.94 seconds. Crystal Wilson was third in 59.44, and Daniela Esquivel finished 14th

with a time of 1:03.52.

The Lady Texans "A" team finished third with a time of 3:56.68 in the 4x400-meter relay, and the "B" team placed seventh in 4:11.56.

In the long jump, Dominique Jacobs finished fourth with a leap of 18-4 1/2, Asiya

Iskakova finished sixth (17-11 ¾), and Karen Thomas was eighth at 17-6.

In the women's triple jump, Jacobs finished fourth at 38-3/4 and Thomas placed fifth at 36-5 3/4.
