Graduation deadline set for March 1
by Laura Cain, co-entertainment editor
For students who plan to graduate in the spring or summer of
2008, the deadline to apply for graduation is getting close.
Students must turn in a completed
application, either by mail or in person, by March 1. There
is no application fee. If the student qualifies, he or she
will receive a letter in April with all of the details and
information for graduating.
To qualify for graduation, the student
must have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.0 or higher,
be in good financial standing with the college, and have
completed or be nearing completion of the degree
requirements for spring or summer of 2008. It is recommended
that the student meet with his or her advisor for degree
requirements.
The commencement exercises for all SPC
campuses will be held in the Texan Dome on the Levelland
campus. Graduation starts at 10 a.m. on May 9.
“It is important to graduate so
students can obtain an associate’s degree or a certificate
from South Plains College for one-year programs,” says
Andrea Rangel, dean of admissions and records at SPC. “Even
if the student plans to transfer, it is still helpful to get
the associate’s degree, because it shows the student has
completed their goal.”
The application is one page, and
students can indicate whether they plan to participate in
the ceremony. It is recommended to attend the commencement
exercises. SPC will provide the cap and gown. The
bookstore is selling graduation announcements, but they must
be ordered.
The graduation application can be
picked up in the Admissions and Records Office on the
Levelland campus or it can be downloaded from the SPC
website. Applications can be turned into any of the SPC
campuses.
Applicants can be mailed to the
Levelland campus at 1401 S. College Ave, Attention!
Graduation Clerk, Levelland, 79336. For any questions
regarding graduation, contact Adela Ochoa at (806) 894-9611,
ext. 2374, or she can be contacted through e-mail at
aochoa@southplainscollege.edu.
Students at the Reese Center Campus can
turn in applications at the Admissions and Records Office in
Building 8. Those at the Byron Martin Advanced Technology
Center campus can submit applications to Linda Wells in the
ATC building. The Plainview campus will be taking
applications in the Central Office.
