More than 700 area high school seniors will soon unite on South Plains College’s Levelland campus to get a glimpse of college life.

The students will be participating in Senior Sneak Preview, which is scheduled for Feb. 22.

Kathryn John, the new student recruiter at SPC, said, “This is my first year to organize this, and I’m excited about that. It’s fun for area seniors, and a great day for faculty and staff to showcase what SPC is like.”

She adds, “The benefits for seniors is that they get to come on campus and meet the faculty that is a part of their future major. They also get to meet current students and learn about different clubs and organizations.”

The students and their parents also can get an inside peak at residence halls and tour the campus. They are expecting around 700 to 800 seniors to show up this year, according to John.

David Jones, vice president for student affairs, expounded on the fact that Senior Sneak Preview is very beneficial to the students and parents who visit the college.    “Hopefully, we can answer any questions that they have and educate them on anything they are unaware of,” Jones said. “It helps the college in return by educating others about college, whether they attend here or somewhere else. It makes the transition easier.”

Registration begins at 9 a.m., along with a SPC Expo in the Texan Dome. During this time, students may visit with many different campus organizations such as the Press Club, Phi Theta Kappa, the Texan Student Booster Club, the Black Student Organization, the Hispanic Student Organization, and the Student Government Organization.  These and other organizations will have booths set up around the Dome during registration.

The opening assembly starts at 9:30 a.m., featuring a performance by the Texan cheerleaders. Seniors then will split up into groups by major and go on a short tour of the campus, focusing on the places pertaining to their major. They are then able to ask faculty and students different questions about career choices and student life

At 10 a.m., there is also a Just for Parents program designed to provide answers to questions regarding admissions, housing, tuition and fees, financial aid, and any thing else they are concerned about. Open house begins at 11:15 a.m., when seniors and parents can finish looking around campus and get a glimpse inside the residence halls.

Free food from SPC’s cafeteria and live music presented by the SPC Creative Arts Department will be provided starting at 11:30 a.m. in the PE Complex.
