For those out there who think that attending college is something that is just out of grasp, reach no further.

The 12th annual Go For It seminar will be held on March 29th from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Lomax Center, 1602 24th St. in Lubbock.

The Go For It seminar is a free seminar sponsored by the Special Services Program at South Plains College Reese Center in Lubbock.

“Our target is for single parents, single, pregnant mothers, economically disadvantaged men and women with non-traditional career choices and displaced homemakers,” said Julia Black Stock, special services counselor.

The agenda will include presentations by local agencies to learn what it takes to be a successful college student. All participants who attend will have the opportunity to visit one-on-one with the agency representatives.

“The Go For It seminar has been a really successful program,” said Maggie Seymour, coordinator of special services at the Reese Center campus. “ It makes a big difference for those who think they can’t have a chance to go to college.”

The seminar will answer such questions as why should I attend college, how do I know I am ready, how will I pay for it, where do I go for help, will I be older than other students and what about my children? Also, a panel of students will share their own college experiences and explain how they were able to succeed with their educational goals.

Following the formal presentations, each person attending the seminar will have the chance to speak with agency representatives regarding his or her specific concerns. Participants can arrive by 8 p.m. and still have the time to obtain information.

Some of the agencies that will be on hand for the seminar are LEARN, Inc., Catholic Family Services, Texas Workforce Center, Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services and the Adult Education Center, along with represantives from the SPC Special Services Programs and Counseling Center.

People seeking special accommodations or more information can contact the SPC Special Services Program at 885-3048, ext. 4615.
