SPC Jazz Band Sets Concert for March 7

South Plains College’s Jazz Band and faculty members will be combining their musical talents to perform their first concert of the spring semester at 7:30 p.m., March 7, at the SPC Theatre for the Performing Arts.

Under the direction of Dr. Bruce Keeling and Al Gardner, this group will be playing pieces such as “I Remember You”, by Mark Taylor, featuring soloists Ashley McNeely on tenor sax and Adrian Moreno on alto sax. “Splanky”, by Neil Hefti, will feature soloist Ruth Cunningham on trombone. “Floatation”, by Les Hooper, will feature soloists Greg John on trumpet and Charles Brown on guitar.

“Send in the Clowns”, by David Wolpe will feature Brian Benavidez on alto sax. “Speak No Evil”, by Wayne Shorter, will featuring SPC Symphonic Band Director Lynda Reid on tenor sax, and “St. Thomas”, by Sonny Rollins, will feature solos by McNeely on tenor sax and John on trumpet.“Brush Strokes”, by Louie Bellson, will feature Skylar Stevens on drums and Caleb Howe on trumpet.

Also performing with the group will be guest vocalists Marissa Eisenhaur and Audra Methvin. They will be singing “A Foggy Day,” “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” and “Sentimental Journey” with the SPC Jazz Band.

Admission is free, and all are encouraged to come enjoy the “blues” side of music.
