Center brings hope to victims of child abuse

Terrified, alone, used, and damaged.

These are just some of the words used by victims of child abuse to describe the pain that they suffer.

A rising epidemic, it was reported in the 2006 National Child Abuse Statistics that more than four children die from some type of abuse or neglect in the United States, totaling an astounding 1,000 to 2,000 deaths per year

Prison changes perspectives on life

Nearly two million Americans are currently incarcerated in the United States.

 

Many people have no idea about what goes on, and what it is really like to be behind bars for an extended period of time. Stories or generalizations about Texas prisons that are heard by the public aren’t usually from an inmate’s point of view.

 

Hudman excites students about politics

For Sara Hudman, politics and teaching have always been a passion for her.

 

Hudman, an adjunct instructor in government on South Plains College’s Reese Center campus, makes her subject interesting with her unbiased views, interesting personality, and incredible teaching ability. She has a way of catching anybody’s attention with the way that she talks about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, not to mention keeping up with politics and applying it in her classes.

 

SPC takes closer look at campus security

Last April's shooting at Virginia Tech spurred college and universities across the country to reexamine their policies for securing campuses and for swiftly notifying students and faculty of an emergency.

With the recent shooting in a lecture hall on the Northern Illinois University campus, safety is back in the spotlight. This leads many people to wonder what is being done locally to keep students safe.
