Looking ahead to the 2008 Major League Baseball season, one can predict that a power shift between the American League and National League is on the horizon.

Much like the migration of talent in the NBA from the East to the already-dominant West, one can see a similar movement from the AL to the NL

Season success helps Lady Texans earn share of WJCAC title

The South Plains College Lady Texans have clinched at least a share of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship.

The Lady Texans downed the Howard College Lady Hawks on Feb. 25 by a 58-40 margin.

The game was tied at 18 with 9:49 left in the first half, but the Lady Texans held Howard scoreless for more than six minutes.

Reputation of sports crippled by recent cheating

As an avid football fan, I am fed up and disgusted with all the scandal and dishonesty in professional sports. 

This appalling display of arrogance and smug protestation of innocence makes my blood boil every time I hear about it.  It would be nice for once to be able to say with confidence that my favorite team has won all their games and competitions fair and square.

 

Texans holding on for post-season berth

After beginning the season with 16 consecutive victories, the South Plains College men’s basketball team has not been able to put together back-to-back wins since defeating New Mexico Junior College and Frank Phillips College at the end of January. 

 

Track safety becoming concern for NASCAR

With the 50th running of the Daytona 500 proving to be another exciting and action-packed race, one can only imagine what the NASCAR Sprint Cup series will be like.

The race came down to the final lap once again.Tony Stewart was the leader on the final lap until Ryan Newman got a run on the outside with help from teammate Kyle Busch.

Spygate issue won't go away until addressed

All the recent government intervention in professional sports has caused uncertainty and confusion but might just be what is needed.

The current "Spygate” scandal involving the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick illegally taping opponents possibly as far back as their Super Bowl birth in 2001, has surfaced again and became a big issue.

Cowboy Cheerleaders help celebrate SPC homecoming

The Athletic Department at South Pains College decided they needed to do something exciting to celebrate the 50th Homecoming event.

So the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders town, and they left a lasting impression with the spectators of the Feb. 14 game.

SPC track members sign letters of intent with four-year schools

Three members of the South Plains College track team recently signed scholarship agreements with four-year universities to compete in track and continue their education.

SPC sophomores Darrell Roddick, Crystal Wilson and Asiya Iskakova all chose where they would be attending next fall. Roddick signed with Texas Tech University, while Wilson signed with Mississippi State University and Iskakova signed with Texas State University.

NBA trade deadline causes roster frenzy

When the Boston Celtics acquired Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett during the off- season, it appeared as if the power had shifted from the Western Conference.
